    Hi all,

Just wondering if someone can let me know about this. Have a brand new xbox 360 all wrapped up as a Christmas pressie but a mate of mine told me i need to purchase a seperate cable to connect it to a CRT TV via scart as it only comes with a HD cable. Is this true? Want to make sure i get one if i need it or it'll be a fairly crappy Christmas morning for a couple of people otherwise!! It's the premium bundle.

No, that's not true. The Premium 360 comes with a cable that does both Component and Composite (it has a switch on the cable). Component is the "HD cable", but you use the composite instead (it comes with the SCART adapter for that too).

For better picture quality you could consider the RGB SCART cable, but it's not like they won't be able to use it over Christmas, it does come with a cable they can use.

The best picture quality is on av1, RGB 1 Scart socket if you dont have a hdtv, 1200 resolution vga monitor will show 360 in 720/1080 hd resolution.i have an 8 year old monitor that works at 1080 hd resolution.AV2 may not be fully wired on your tv .Theres no harm in trying av2 ,av1 is usually better for 360 console picture quality.

gamer can u tell me what av1 is?

i got 21 inch philips crt - 2scarts at the back, 1 rgb at the side.

where is the av1 socket? don't think i have it... (is that like a hole or do you mean the AV, EXT1, EXT2 channels?)
and what would be the best quality from my setup? connect through rgb, right?

I think he means that on TVs with 2 Scarts, only 1 is usually fully wired, and thus has better picture.
Could be completely wrong though :D

AV1 , is scart 1, rear of tv,use 360 cable,hd switch OFF, USING SCART adaptor into the 360 cable . adaptor is supplied with the console cable.the rgb connectors on your tv are composite, u should get better picture on AV1, if its fully wired .most tvs scart 1 is fully wired, rgb ,better quality for consoles or dvdplayer connected to av1,scart 1.

sorry to bother you gamer, but what do you mean its scart1 is fully wired. the other scart2 and rgb i have arent fully wired? they seem to function right?

my 360 is connected to rgb (channel AV) and never tried to connect to scart yet.

my old xbox is connected to scart2 (channel EXT2) and there definately is colour loss compared to before (was hooked upto rgb).

what would you recommend me to get the best picture i can get with my 360? thank you.

Scart is a carrier of many types of signals, RGB being one.

Some TV's do not have all Scart sockets fully wired up for RGB, but a good way to tell if your scart socket does have RGB is if the TV auto switches to the console when it is turned on, or if RGB symbol comes up when it is turned on.

On my TV(a JVC) it has 4 scart, 2 of them have RGB.

Gamer's comments are a bit confusing, so don't worry about it.
