After reading nicnicnic's thread I decided I'm gonna have a stab at building a br for 1/2 by playing lots of stts. I plan on playing 1k before I go back to college, something like 150+ between now and jan, and then 850ish in the month between when I finish my exams and when I go back.

I plan on getting a 20" monitor, and 4 tabling, even so it'll still take about 7hours a day to hit my target amount. I remember reading hjs blog ages ago and he aimed to play 2k in a month, anyone else do a similar figure? how many hours per day and how many tables did you play?

What kinda br do I need to start off with? 20 buy-ins enough?

Even if I only play $10 games, with a roi of something like 30% I'll make 3k + the 500 gjp bonus, which would almost leave me with 20 buy-ins for 1/2. I hope.

    why not play 50 1, or 25/50?

Is this not a quicker lower varience way? also I'm fairly lazy, after playing loads of 1/2 I kinda don't don't take those levels seriously ("ahh sure it's only x to call..." type of stupidity.)

EDIT. actually, that was when I played 10.20 for a while. Those limits would prob be fine, I dunno, I've played a fair bit cash the last few months, and a months break would be good.

I don't think pot sizes on 1/2 online will equate to what you are used to in the Fitz. I think you should use a combination to be honest, and forget about the monetary aspect if you don't think you can respect it, as it seems you don't play online much, if at all from your posts (I may be wrong) and this is something you will have to get used to. Some people find the transition from online to live hard, and others find the transition from live to online equally hard, and I am not talking due to standards or play related aspects, but things like speed, concentration levels, things going on around you etc. These are all different from one to the other and can be disconcerting if you are only used to one.

If you are well used to online though then ignore me.

30% ROI is not maintainable at any STT level.

gl with whatever you decide to do

sorry ignore my previous post, trying to do too many things at once. yeah 30% should be doable at $10

I found the standard to be pretty terrible in these,I'm guessing there wont be too much difference at the 20 level.

i havent played on tribecca for a good while, though the standard in the 20s were a bit better but not by much and the 50s played like the 20s.

if i were you i would get to the 20s and 50s asap as they will increase you $$$ but decrease your roi.

how many buy-ins should I have before moving up levels?

if your playing the normal length or extended length 30-40 buyins is enough. if you are going for the speed or turbos, more.

Stay away from the turbos though. on tribecca they are crap. The speeds are profitable but the swings are much greater.

fcuk stts, they will mess your head up when you return to play cash. Just get the head down and multitable the micros.

I was doing this but gave up. Playing the 6pac's and had a 50% roi after 300+ games, then went on a run where i didn't finish ITM in 14 games and tilted the rest playing BJ. If you can handle the swings it's easily achievable.

I started on the $3 and built a role up to have 20 buy-ins for the $20 but stuck at the $10 and dabbled in the $15

You know we only have a weeks break between exams and semester 2

My exams are over pretty earlier, so I've like 3weeks+. Anyway, they're only lectures.

what site is best for all this STT stuff? stars? tribeca? prima?

Yup, it'll also take a while to re-adjust to cash play and you could see your hard earned BR decimated in a matter of days.

Grind your way up, if you put in the same hours 4-tabling and grinding out .25/.50 and .50/1 you'll have the BR much quicker. Just make sure you have the proper BR for whatever level you start at. 15-20 Buy-In's

also in response to one of your posts above. STTs are of higher varience than cash games.

I recently logged on to GJP, and 2 tabling .5/1 to clear my 500GJP bonus.

After 5000 hands its working out at aprox E20+ per hour or 10.25PTBB/100 hands. These SS cash limits are prob better and more intersting than low level STTs. It will also take a while to readjust to cash if u stick strictly to stt's. (although i play both but have very different strategies for each, stt/mtt on stars though, only cash on GJP).

if 4 tabling then you will prob need more than the norm reccomended 20 buy-ins. $20 STTs on stars are pretty soft tbh.

while 20 is the rule of thumb for cash games, you have a much greater chance of ruin only having 20 buyins for stts.

I'm currently just playing sixpaks, Although I've only play about 100 I feel that they are pretty soft, I have been going through some pretty bad variance and am still eeking out a decent itm rate.

I am currently playing £10 ones and have about 30buyins, I'm planning on moving up to the £20 buy in ones soon enough maybe once I get 20 buy ins for it and if that drops to 13 buy ins ill drop back down.

I am also looking to get an extra monitor and have already posted in the laptop section about it.
I'm looking at this one, have you found any other ones that fit the bill?
