One of my guitars is a kinda custom job that i bought from a friend i havent seen in 10 years. The body is hand made from wood (weighs a ton), Dimarzio pick ups, telecaster bridge and strat neck.

More recently my electrics have started to act up and sound can be intermittent. On disassembling I couldnt see any wires that were loose etc. However I discovered that the neck isnt a genuine strat neck. i dont even think its a fender neck at all.

My problem is it worth reading up on fixing electrics on the guitar or should i just leave it in for repair? Will the shop frown upon the neck not being fender? It has sentimental value as you can imagine as it was my first electric.

No shop will care what kind of neck it is.

Personally I'd say give it a go yourself. If that doesn't work bring it in. I'd start with the jacksocket.
