does anyone know if any places are gonna drop the price in the january sales?

I doubt it very much. There might be a drop in March when the PS3 is released, but I think it's as cheap as it's going to get now.

Theyre on sale in Tescos over the weekend, see the thread "25% of electrics in Tesco" I picked a slimline PS2 with one controller up friday for €104, not too bad.

In the 3g store in dundrum the slim ps2 with controller is €99 and u can also buy an official controller and memory card both for €20, pretty good value!

It's a perfectly adequate console and all... but it is (soon to be) outdated technology.

I don't know how well the original Playstation was supported (with the release of 'decent' games) once the 'PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation' of consoles was released. So, it's something to think about before buying the, now dated, PS2.

I reckon it would be absolutely fine for younger, less discerning, children though.

... and I suppose for the prices quoted above you can't go too wrong; good games are still good games.

well,im getting a wii anyway[have one preorfered since start of nov in extravision,have not gotten yet though] but want ps2 as back up console............my last ones lsaer broke

i cant get ps3 or 360 as my parents refuse to pay what is basically redidious money for just a games machine........and i think its unfair we are made to pya high prices for the hd engines when the fact is most people dont have a hd tv and cant afford to get one

although was offered option of getting 360 at weekend[120 off in tesco ......whole 25 percent thing] but didnt want one........wii is better

although if i had been offered ps3,i would have taken that.........

If you missed the Tesco sale, Supervalu were shifting them (and fast) at €114. Still a fantastic games platform for not so young kids and doubles up as a DVD player.

Why not get one second hand? There's tons of them around with people getting rid for next-gen consoles, can be had for peanuts with games and accessories.

balls, well im in dublin, didnt get time to leave the house,
checked argos online and smyths and both said sold out so i bought it off complet 170 + 30 delivery.
