My husband has an xbox 360 which he currently plays on a 28" bog schtandard CRT tv, not widescreen. I was in Tesco today and spotted a 32" Bush HD ready TV (LCD32TV22HD) with 25% discount. Because a relation of mine works there, got the 10% staff discount on top of that, so got the tv for €610. Link to tv here : http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-5773.aspx
I figured that was christmas sorted..

I came home and thought I'd read up on it. I don't really understand the specs of these tvs and can't find in depth detail on this model, but I see mention of 780's and 1080's, i's and p's, contrast ratios, brightness etc on other tvs, so now I'm starting to get scared.. Despite the price, was it a bad buy? Will he see a big difference on the 360? He mainly plays gears of war. Anyone have experience with this telly?

Thanks, I'm a devil for buying things on impulse and regretting it after!!

It seems he can connect via the VGA cable which you can buy in all shops for the 360. He will notice a difference if he hasn't used a component cable or vga cable with the 360 before. Don't forget that he also needs an audio source nearby to carry the sound because the VGA cable can only carry video.

The box of the tv said it has HDMI input, and his xbox came with the high definition cable, is that not what you would stick in there? Would that not carry sound? Its a serious balls if it needs external speakers, because that's more wires for the baby to chew on :(

Unfortunately there is no HDMI cable being planned for release from Microsoft as of yet. I'm not sure of the HD cable that he got, my bet is the component cable which is red, blue, green and a red and white for audio. You can pick up a cheap enough sound system for €100 in argos or get a 2:1 sound kit for about €50.

Thats the one he got, alright.. it has a switch thing on it with normal tv and high definition tv. Well balderdash, if I'd known that I may not have bought it :(
I guess I should have read more about it first :(

You can relax, he'll be able to play games at HD resolution (720p or 1080i) with the supplied component cable. The supplied cable has a set of five connectors R,G,B and red/white for the audio which plug in to the set. There's a discussion thread about the TV here:
