    Hi,

On the 21st, Aldi have an 8" digital photo frame for €129. Supports the usual card formats, has sound and plays MPEG4s videos. However no USB interface and won't run on batteries.

    Think it's a reasonable deal? A 7" Philips display is €209 on Komplett.ie.

Doesn't mention what resolution the screen is, kind of an important detail.

Plenty of choice for fairly cheap here too:

    It seems to be this:

    Resolution quoted is 640 x 480 (307200 x 3 dots). Also the display itself is only 6.5"x5".

Just got one (they only had a few in Athlone). Screen quality seems good (comparable to Phillips one I bought for twice the price last week) but it wouldn't show the MP4 video files I had on my memory card. Any ideas why?

Yep, plus a headphone socket. I tried both with an mp3 file (which it also supports) an they both work fine

Bought one. I'm very happy for the price but I don't find it all that sharp compared to some more expensive ones I've seen.

    daveym: You're right.

    Hi embraer170,

I don't have one but I'd imagine it's 8" diagonally - usually what they mean when only one measurement is given.

.... sorry misread your comment... or did I? Let me know if I answered, uhh... anything correctly! :o

thats what i am saying. it's always 8" on the diagonal which makes 6.5x5 the correct size for an 8" display ~(it's actually a bit over). the post above implies the display is smaller than expected..

Ahh, good... so we're agreed! Had just realized my mistake in assuming you were asking a question.

I was overzealous in my desire to help.... it'll never happen again! :D

Re. the screen size, I forgot the 8" was the diagonal measure in my initial post. Having read read some reviews of Phillips screens being smaller than advertised, I just assumed the same here without actually thinking how it was measured. :o

joeg: haven't tried video files yet but will let you know when I do.

8" ones in Power City for €189.

Pricey, no video playback, but the quality is superb. Plus, it's actually 8" and like a proper picture frame, it's triangler.
