Trevor Sherman?

    Hey guys,

I was hoping somebody here could give me some information on an apparently very experienced MMA fighter named Trevor Sherman?

He's a BB in Kenpo under Jeff Speakman and between the two of them they've "introduced ground-fighting into the equation". I asked some of the guys in Speakman's org. about his experience or qualifications in groundfighting, e.g. BJJ, Judo, Sambo, Wrestling, South East Asian Monkey Dancing etc.

The response I got was that he is a very experienced MMA fighter. This didn't help enormously and asking further questions got me the same answer, I'm really guessing he has no qualifications in any of those arts. And before the tirade starts that belts don't mean anything I just mean he probably isn't hugely skilled at any of them otherwise they'd have bragged about it.

Anywho, if any of you guys have a notion about who he is it would be a great help!

    Cheers, Bobby

My thoughts exactly! Obviously he fights under a psuedonym or wears a mask and a cape in the ring. No other reason springs to mind.

I think you'll find that he does.....

I tried googleing his name, and all I got where refences to how he trains with Jeff Speakmann, and how he "introduced" cage fighting to his Kempo, but here's a picture:

    He's the bald one

matt thorntons record wouldn't be particularly extensive either but people wouldn't doubt his experience in mma. How come matt hasn't fought more often? I should probably direct these questions to him directly so I'll wait to the next seminar. I'm genuinely curious.

its one thing claiming to be a coach - matt is very successful coach and has helped athletes compete on the international stage. people like randy, hendo, monson to name a few

its another to claim to be a 'seasoned fighter' - matt's never said he was and has no real interest in competing. some are competitive, some are not.

i would've thought you coming from a sports background would've got the distinction but guess not.

I do, at least I think I do understand. But just with the sport being so small when Matt started off I'm just surprised he didn't take more fights. I suppose he was concentrating on the coaching aspect. There was a discussion about the signficance of competitive experience for a coach. Some people said it was absolute others not an important aspect. We can all imagine the little old man rocky style boxing coach who probably doesn't have much personal ring experience.

Again, I'm still rather surprised I would have presumed he was a fairly competitive person. Then again, I've never met him so what do i know!

in my experience it depends on the maturity of the athlete

    Heh,

Is bella really andy, I'm confussed. I'm coming back to train in SBG N as soon as possible, great place to train - and that's before they moved to the new place.

I think Tyson was the best heavy weight boxer ever. Firstly, because I've never seen any other heavy weight boxers fight. Secondly, he's an interesting character (so was Ali, must be said). Thirdly, he was a monster.

Again, I don't know how many tennis, basketball, soccer coaches there are that haven't be active competitors within the sport. I'm not saying you have to have competed at International standard to be a good coach, Wenger is an excellent soccer coach, only played for a Division 2/3 french soccer team in his day, Alex F only played for Aberdeen.

But looking at some of the managers and coaches invovled in American Football, I'd doubt very much that any of them played beyond high school.
in my experience it depends on the maturity of the athlete

Have to admit I don't understand this! :) Can you elaborate?
