Possible new/old large scale Wind Turbine storage technology

In Wicklow I believe, there is a dam which is sometimes used when the grid comes under pressure at peak times. The hydro power electricity does not really add to the grid as the water has to be pumped back up when it has ran to the bottom lake (two large false lakes). Would it be possible to build Wind turbines near the dam. When it's windy the turbines produce electricity and fill the lake behind the dam, when the dam is filled the wind turbines power the national grid. When the wind stops for a significant length of time the dam opens and an equivalent amount of hydro electricity is produced.
Surely technology like this would increase the efficiency of Wind Energy by preventing the use of coal/peat burning plants when no wind is blowing.
Not sure if this has ever been implemented but I patent it :) under the guise of these boards (Can't patent a thing like that anyway it's too general).

Can't patent it because stuff like that was in use back in the 19th century

The other way of envening out wind power is to use grids, the biggest proposed by airtricity would stretch along the coasts from the Baltic to the Med
