Still get a lump in the throat at Bing Crosbie & David Bowie doing Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth.
Huge deal at the time if you think that Bowie was as controversial at the time as, say, Marilyn Manson today.

    'Simp-ly Hav-ing a won-der-ful Christmas-time'

By Paul McCarntney is a personal favourite of mine.

Stop the Cavalry is a good one too.

I know it's not a Christmas song per se, but you really knew it was that time of year when you heard :

'Penny's (Penny's), got a whole lotta things for Christmas
And a lot for the fam-ily
    Fa-la-la la-la-la-la-la
    Fa-la-la la-la-la-la-la...'

Cant bate a bit of McGowan. Makes ya proud to be Irish.....and locked.

Despite my heavy leaning towards hip hop and dance, and my bitter, intense hatred for DJs who play cheese in nightclubs, its perhaps ironic that every christmas yil find me on the floor pissed as a fart belting out All I Want for Xmas tryna get me swiss :p

Fairytale of New York is a definite top Christmas song. Chris Rea's Driving Home for Christmas is also good, always like that one as I drive home across the country for Christmas every year. I like Chris de'Burg - A Spaceman came Travelling too, but it doesn't get much play on the radio. The Bing Crosbie & David Bowie duet as mentioned above is another favorite of mine.

I can't stand most christmas songs, but I will always have time for Fairytale of New York. After that, I like Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas. After though... hmm... its hard to pick from such a big pool of stinkers ;)

Couldn't agree more with this choice. Anyone know if this is available on youtube or some such like?

I don't know the name, but the one that played in the ending credits of Die Hard. Love it. 'Let it snow' would be a guess based on the chorus...

    Mr Stevens?

    Merry Christmas Everyone.

I had either Cliff Richard or Shakin' Stevens for them lyrics.

My second choice above. I also remember it more for the end of Die Hard.

I hate Driving Home for Christmas, its been playing nonstop in work. I think if I hear it one more time I'm gonna get a gun and shoot the place up

Fairytale in New York is about the only Christmas song I can stomach anymore TBH. And only just.

I hate Driving Home for Christmas,
Some year, and I always hope for this, some year I hope he crashes.

Dan Fogleberg, Same old Lang Syne.

Not too well known, but listen to those lyrics.

And of course all the usuals.

If I had to pick two more, they would be Greg Lake - I believe in Father Christmas and A Winter's Tale by David Essex.

    blue christmas - elvis presley
Oh, Holy Night - nat king cole
All I Want For Christmas (Is You) - Mariah Carey (best listened to sitting infront of the mirror in a fluffy bath-robe, singing into my hairbrush, stuffing my face with chocolate and crying my eyes out)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭bluto63

    Rockin' around the christmas tree
Also that song which is really high pitched, sounds like a little boy is singing it. I can't remember the name.

stop the cavalry and driving home for christmas are my favourites

Fairytale of New York, Stop the Cavalry would be my picks. Most of the gimmicky songs get very tedious after a few listens.

Walking In The Air, possibly? Hmm. It's a little naff but not bad in small doses.

I love "last christmas" by wham/g Michael....
"do they know its christmas time" was on the telly earlier..
It made me cry... It's an emotional song and I'm an emotional person (at the moment)... and then there was Bono's mullet hair cut... :p

(I'm a big U2 fan.. Bono can make me cry all he wants... :) )

I go to mass precisely once a year. My parent's parish has an amazing old church and they do a version of "O, Holy Night" with a soprano and a violin every year. With the church acoustics and the mixture of voice and strings, it makes me cry every year....

My party piece for christmas parties is Santa baby.

I really like "That was the best Christmas Ever" by Sufjan Stevens.
Ben Folds - Bizarre Christmas Incident is hilarious.
And A Spaceman Came Travelling? No? Anyone?
