Nintendo have seemingly issued, or are going to issue, a recall on all Wiimote straps. No details about the mechanics of how they are going to handle this yet.

For more info jump to here and here

I would say this would be rather cheap (compared to something like a battery recall or a car recall). Pop it in the post and get a new strap in a few days, or even if they just send out a load of new straps to retailers and say anyone with a strap just bring it in and return it for the new one.

Must say I've had no problem with my strap. If you hold the wii-mote properly and don't be stupid it seems fine. This reminds me of the "Warning Hot" labels McDonalds had to put on their coffee. Some people are just idiots tbh

I heard (in a pub - the most reliable of places) that it was due to americas national pastime - baseball.

For those of you who haven't played, after hitting the ball you have to drop the bat before running to first base. This is causing players of the wii in their excitement to lob the controller throught the nearest window / plasma, to hysterical laughter of all around.

In fact, I want to see that on youtube!

I dont see how some people have problems with it. You don't even need to swing that hard to get a reaction in any games.

But to show what can happen

If people are getting lost in these games and forgetting it's not real, how long is it going to be before that Ambulance chaser, Jack Thompson is going to latch back on.

People should be more careful/less stupid.

Mutton Chops (I'm not going to call him by his real name, I believe it summons him from the dark beyond) doesn't chase things like this, only pure evils that train his nations children to be murders. Don't you know he predicted Columbine?

The traps here in Euroland are stronger than the US ones. Wonder if they are definitely replacing ours too. I think it takes a special kind of person to let go of a remote you're swinging around (in front of a possibly expensive TV).

Some people really are stoopid:rolleyes: Anyway according to the second article in the original post Ninty won't be looking for your current strap back before issuing a replacement. There's an order form here for it but it's just for the states: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp. It also says on that page "Because Wii consoles shipped starting in early December already utilized the newer version of the strap you will need to determine which version of the strap you have before ordering a replacement...", so maybe Europe* isn't affected at all. I must have a look and see which strap is on mine.

This isn't a recall. They're offering replacements to people with broken straps:

Yeah, our console remote straps are all extra sturdy, but my Wii Play remote still has the thin one on it. I find the strap gets in the way more often than not as I go to grab my mouse having put the remote on my lap etc... (maybe I am just special :o)

    Exactly.

    Evolution in action.

Getting an error with that, I assume it's the handcuff mod?

Yup, that's the one. Pity you can only buy it from Austria.

Just checked, mine are the same.
