Same number in two locations?

I currently work from home but I'll shortly be flipping back and forth between and office and home on a daily basis, is it possible to use the same VOIP number in both locations? Presumably shutting off the router would achieve this, but that seems a bit awkward.

While I'm here, any recommendations on the wireless/VOIP all-in-one front? Won't be needing a bundled DSL modem in a couple weeks, thank god, no more line rental! :)

Who is your provider? I'm with Blueface and they set me up with a second login (on the same account) so I can run a softphone in work and a regular ATA at home. When a call comes in, both stations (home and work) get alerted and either can be answered.

Sounds good! I don't have a provider yet, looking for recommendations as it happens. Tom Raftery has been less than complimentary about Blueface of late, he's had several problems with them.

freespeech does this out of the box (i think they use SER) basically problem is the current version of asterisk doesnt allow multiple registrations for the one ID, SER/openser does let you do this. Blueface will give you two accounts mapped to the one number.

Any phone provider (not just VOIP) can do it by call forwarding, Only give one number out, and if it ins't answered the 2nd number rings. Often the user can set the number of rings or even set it to immediately call forward.

Aside from the fact that I specifically asked for a "same number" solution, that doesn't make sense as only one location will be covered.

Is blueface the only provider that gives out multiple logins?

If you're looking for recommedations then I'd put forward a reccomendation for Blueface. Only had one serious problem (the one back in October were there was a run of failures at BF) but overall we're happy. The online PBX GUI gives you full control over voicemail, call redirection/forwarding. Support has been the best part. Email queries are responded to virtually in real time. Never had to call them. I think they are the only provider that you can port a landline number to as well.

I would have to agree with fatherdougalmag, I have had Blueface for over a year now and the support has been superb (the only problem I have had ultimately proved to be on my own network), Aaron knew this from the start but made every possible effort to get things sorted. They also pulled out all the stops when I wanted to setup my two sisters who live in Perth Western Australia.

Surely one of the great benefits of VOIP is that you can set up trial pay as you go accounts with several service providers until you settle on the one that suits you best.
