It should work but it would have a different serial number I think and you and your friend would be violating Microsoft's EULA. Better call Microsoft tech support and tell them about your situation if you don't want to break the law.

It won't work..The Dell OEM XP CD's are locked to Dell bioses so will not work in a non-dell system.
