Apologies folks - this has showed up twice - My connection dropped halfway through and I didnt realise the first post went through.

How many of boarders out there are lefties (southpaws, Ciotogs, etc)?
Its a bloody nuisance a lot of the time as choice in instruments is limited, and often more expensive.
Of course when you're at a partyand all you want to do is chill, not being able to play your hosts right-handed guitar can be a bonus!

    1. Lefty
    2. Righty
    3. Ambidextrous (show off!)

i'm naturally left handed, but when i picked up my first ever guitar it just so happened to be a right handed one.

    i'm happy with my choice.

I deleted the other thread and added your poll in here. I'm right-handed by the way but people never ask me to play at parties because I clear the place out :)

if i was right handed it'd probally spend most of my free time noodling around in guitars shops, so im kinda glad they usually only have one les paul, one sg and a couple of chinese strats for me to play....yeah....glad *sigh*

Left handed but am about to play right handed. I learned long back in school right handed so I'm still more used to it

I'm left handed but I play right handed. I write with my left but I do some other things with my right. I think it's called "mixed handedness". For example, I'm using my right hand for the computer mouse now. To be honest, choosing to play right handed has been one of the best musical decisions I've ever made.

Yeah southpaw is a scurge, my mate wanted a les paul and ended up paying €1800 for one because all he could find was an ebony studio in some obscure music shop in the other side of the country

I never understood why it was that we play the way we do. (violin players are the same, and probably a good few other string instruments)

I try to use strict alternate picking (except for swept arpeggios) so my right hand basically just goes up and down like clockwork, theres nothing fancy happening there at all. All the difficult stuff is done by my left hand on the fretboard.

I would have thought my right hand (being the stronger and more dexterous) would be better suited to fretting.

I broke my left arm pretty badly when I was 11 and have been overly right handed since. I was right handed from birth but my left hand was pretty much useless for the best part of a year and after electro-physio I got some movement back in my fingers but still have difficulty manipulating my fingers to do some things so I'm delighted I can play at all, in fact playing is probably the best ongoing therapy I could ever have. I'll never have true speed in my left fingers so I learned some unorthodox ways of getting around the fretboard, for example my fingers are slightly double jointed so I can use that to fret two strings and lift off either string without moving my full finger, just by flexing the joint :D

    So, yeah, righties ftw :p

Sinister bastards maybe, wrong - never!

I am mostly right handed, only writing, drawing and playing guitar with my left. (OK theres one other activity but thats my business :) )
When I started to learn guitar I considered just going right-handed, but being a massive Black Sabbath fan at the time, I wanted to be just like Tony Iommi so I went lefty.
This also had the advantage that my younger brothers couldn't play my guitars - or so I thought. I recently heard how they used to re-string them right-handed when I was away at weekends!

go team lefty, i hate all you right handed feckers especially how you can go into a guitar shop and actually choose what kind of guitar you want to buy.
