    From Radio Netherlands Media Weblog...
RTÉ to start DRM tests on 252 kHz

Irish public broadcaster RTÉ has confirmed that the 252 kHz site (200kW in analogue) is to have a new transmitter installed this week to allow the transmission of DRM on this frequency. At present, a date has not been set, but initial tests will take place in DRM mode between 0200-0500 UTC, simulcasting RTÉ Radio 1. The power for the DRM broadcasts is not yet known.

Actually thought that they were running 300kW, anyway it looks like they'll be doing night tests to start with, they can get away with it as the audience is likely to be minimal. Test during the daytime will surely come down the line at some point though.

Good find NC. They won't need full steam at night, LW transmissions generally use less power after dark, iirc when Atlantic 252 was on the air, it was 100kw after 7pm, not sure what RTÉ do now.

RTE's longwave allocation is actually 500 Kw (Day) and 100Kw (night) but they may not be running full power to save on electricity costs

From what I hear they are now fulltime on DRM LW, what a waste, I wonder how many are listening? Did you ever see a DRM radio on sale in Ireland? Can't see my boss fitting a DRM radio in my cab.
    Any views welcome.
Mods you might consider merging this in the radio section.

I don't think so, Greenman, we've always done radio technology here, while the radio board has always done programming. The DAB thread is on 23 pages alone. :D

252 is off the air this week.

No probs, I definitely heard that dreadful DRM sound ala 1440khz on 252.

They seem to have upped the power on 252 the Algerian is well in the background.
