I'm looking for a VOIP Christmas Solution for my parents who have there broadband with Eircom and claim not to have a router. I had my eye on Skype's SMC Wi-Fi phone package which comes with a FON Wireless router which appealed to me because it will work without the computer being on guaranteeing it will be put to good use. On further reading FON's idea of sharing my parent's broadband with other people doesn't sit well with me.

Any suggestions? The main thing is for the phone to be on all the time even when the computer is off - also it would be nice not to be tied down to a supplier...

make sure it is for OUR kind of DSL on analog line, not the smarted DSL over ISDN. They do both.

Fritzbox are available from Marx Computers in Fairview http://www.marxcomputers.ie/

Some of the units have the option to wire conventional phones into the unit and you can then set-up least cost routing tables in it - have local landline calls routed over landline, and International calls made via VoIP. However I don't think it will work with SKYPE.

http://www.avm.de/en/Produkte/FRITZBox/index.html Is the manufacturers website. In Germany as Watty said, they use ADSL over ISDN and the ISDN Fritzbox will not work on our ADSL over POTS.
