Live Double chance tournament (Vegas Nights Christmas Pokerfest). Structure below.
I am an inexperienced player and would like to hear how people approach double chance tourneys.

Do you get the extra chips straight away?
Do you try to double up starting chips and have additional chips as insurance?
At what blinds level would you take them?
How low in chips would you have to be to take them?

I'd like answers to these questions or others I should have asked.

    -- Structure --
Chips - start 5,000. each player entitled to additional 5,000
Blinds - 45min blind levels for two days

    Blind structure:
    25/50
    50/100
    75/150
    100/200
    150/300
    Break
    200/400
    300/600
    400/800
    500/1K
    700/1.5K
    1K/2K

all in every hand with the first 5k and then look to double up your second, its a sure fire winner

It has to be better value to take the chips straight away and play like a freezeout...the chips are worth more when the blinds are lower so why wait until later

Take them straight away, all other questions and answers are null and void.

You can be a lot more agressive with the first 5k early on, cos of the safety net of the second 5k. No?

surely it's easier to be more aggressive with 10k in front of you.

I never played a dc, but I always assumed taking the chips straight away made the most sense.

Thanks for the responses guys.....you have made up/totally changed my mind
watching out for those who are playing like loons because "I have 5k chips for insurance" - make sure they have to redeem their policy.
.... is especially well put. I will play tight/aggressive game and try to mop up a few of these guys chips!

It encourages bad players to buyin to that particular tournament, and allows them to get away with playing weak tight for longer both of which should increase your +EV. Double chances and scalps improve my bottom line on a consistent basis. Gambool

I've played one DC tourney before, and didn't bother taking my chips until the break (when it was compulsory).

At that stage it didn't really make much of a difference compared to the blinds and the size of my stack, so I would recommend taking them straight away

Twice in Double chance tourneys I have forgotten to take my second batch of chips.

DC tournies are some of the best value tournies as players dont take their chips when they should.
