    Christmas Cracker exiting hand.

    Thoughts please......

Hero 26k, Villain has me covered approx. 30k.

    Blinds 200/400 with 50 Ante

Villain Limps UTG (i failed to notice this at the time) folded around to me and to suit the festive season I find snowmen on the button, I proceed to raise Karlh's big blind.

Karl then threatens to spit in my lunch and then folds, jokingly i say "I was going to show you before you said that. While hovering my cards above the muck pile I sense a pause at the table, why are the chips not coming my way, whooops, UTG has to act.

UTG then goes into the tank.

A little about our villain, good solid tight player who can also be very tricky to play against, great cash game player. i've alot of respect for his game his UTG limp range is wide, 55+ QK+, AJ-AK , however the big pairs I don't think he is open limping with as he realises that he will only win the minimal amount with a limp re-raise.

After much deliberation Villain makes it 5k to go.

    Pot approx. (7.7k)

    I?

I'd call and evaluate on the flop since you have position.

In a cash game the other night, someone limp-raised from UTG. After the hand when he showed down his pocket kings, a player commented on how he can't believe limp raising KK/AA UTG still works. I still can't believe it does either. Having the results of the hand in is a bad idea, as it influences peoples thinking.

I think a stop and go might be the way to play it...

You on drugs Ian? Firstly, there are no results in the OP unless they are cunningly disguised, and how can one execute a stop and go from the button?

    Drugs = Yes
    Results = My exit hand
Stop and go = Whoops read him as BB

    So I think I fold.

I think you are almost always good here so I think I shove. It seems like he is limp-raising you because he read your button raise as a steal attempt as you didn't notice him in the pot.
How much did you make it?
I expect to be racing if he decides to call though.

My thinking as well. But I don't like a shove, and I can't put my finger on exactly why. I think I call and expect to take it down on the flop a lot of the time.

    Edit: Replace "expect" with "hope"

I thought that and last week in the Jackpot 20+3 game this situation happened with me holding pocket Kings where opponant limped re-raises utg, I called and folded to Q high flop, he showed me Q8. I will never do that in that particular tournament again. Worst fold ever.

For this hand I am veering for calling and evaluating the flop

I expect he has a hand, most people aren't imaginative enough to take advantage of the fact that you probably thought it was folded to you. Depends who it was.

As do I...that's pretty clear, the question is how big is this hand...he's good enough to fold 99-QQ and he knows that my money generally does not go in the middle without somthing to back it up.

I've just been moved to this table and i've played one other hand very aggressivlely that did not go to showdown.

While he knows i'm capable of making a play with air, he also knows i will only do this very seldomly without a good holding.

    I made it 1200 Reggie.

It works a charm for a table full of calling stations, with a table of strong opponents you lose so much money pulling that play.

Of course I do on occasion like pulling the limp re-raise with pocket 2's :)

I think his most likely holding is a big ace and I like a shove even more if he's gonna fold out all pairs up to QQ.

I didn't take much time to put all my chips in the pot due to his long dwell before re-raising.

I sweated it out for what seem like a decade, I imagine he eventually decided that i did not have AA/KK and 1010-QQ was my holding as he eventually did make the call with AKo.

Perhaps i was sligthly rash considering how much play was left in the tournament, with roughly 42 runners remaining.

The flip side is, i do have fold equity and as Lylod pointed out i win a sizeable stack for the times I win the race.

It was my first and last flip of the tournament

You played it well, ul on losing the race.

With an unknown villain I would agree...

Regardless of information on the villian.

I'd always fold in this position, there will be better times to get your chips in, and your in no need to race your stack with the blinds being 200/400, and having over 20k.

I have to ask you, would you do the same thing with 22 in that position, would you call?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,476 ✭✭✭Samba

I don't want to race, i want the chips that are in the middle now.

If i do get called and go to the tracks...it's a pot worth winning.
