    Hi folks,

    I have attached the base 6 multiplication table. I know how to multiple single numbers but how would you multiply numbers like:

    120^6 by 55^6

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    I'm a little confused by your notation, do you mean 120 to the power of 6 or 120 in the base 6? i assume the latter so the answer is 50320.
    120*55=6600
    6600=5 *(6^4)+120
    120=0*(6^3)+120
    120=3*(6^2)+12
    12=2*(6^1)+0
    0=0*(6^0)+0
    Not exactly a rigorous proof i know but you get the idea.
    if you have trouble understanding try doing it in base 10.

    Hey thanks for that!

    I thought maybe it could be done from the table itself but maybe I am wrong?

    Ermm... I'm a little rusty on base maths but should the answer not be

    11440 (in base 6)
    and 1680 in base 10

    I worked it out by converting the numbers to base 10 first i.e. 120 base 6 = 1X6^2 + 2X6^1 + 0 = 48 base 10 ...
    same for 55 and got 35 in base 10

    so 35*48 = 1680 in base 10

    1680 in base 10 = 11440 in base 6

    I used the table above to multiply the numbers straight and got the same answer

    p.s. I just multiplied like I would have if I was doing decimal for the first time... i.e. one over the other carrying 1's and the likes

    p.p.s there should also never be a 6 in a base 6 number :)... just like there's never a 2 in a base 2 number

    whoops im retarded i forgot to convert to base 10 at the start.
    Yup joechicken you are correct.I was kinda piecing bits i learned from learning binary and group theory.
