I'm amshamed to admit that I have never downloaded music from the net and given that I am about to buy an MP3 player I'm looking for suggestions on what sites are good?

I've asked friends and they seem to fall into either of the two categories of technophobes or just bloody unhelpful :(

    Thanks

I hope you're looking for places to buy music, or copyright free music. Anything else is a no-no.

    Yes to buy.
I assumed that would be understood

Well, you never know with some people :)

Personally, the only store I've used is iTunes. Yes, the tracks you download will be DRM protected, but iTunes lets you burn them to disk, or as an mp3 CD, which doesn't use any DRM. It takes a bit of extra time, but I don't mind.

Can you only use Itunes with an Ipod?

I'm travelling so I need something that I can pretty much stick into the PC and copy music straight onto without having to download lots of software etc. as I will be using it in an internet cafe.

If you want to play legitimate purchased music on your mp3 player I'd say you're best off buying CD's, ripping them to mp3 and putting them on your player. Music DRM really is the devils work.

When I can buy music online without DRM (like I get in a normal shop), and is provided in CD quality (or in some sort of lossless conpression) that I can do what I want with then I might come onboard.
