I'm getting a Wii on Friday and wondering what type of wireless router I should get for my Wii. I am on NTL Broadband 1MB. Is it safe and should I use it. I really want it with opera coming out on 23rd.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I got the Netgear 824 in PCWORLD. (It came with a USB dongle for my PC also which was handy). I'm not sure what I paid for it. I'm on NTL 3Mb myself so you shouldn't have any problems. I'm running 2 laptops, 360, PC and wii on it (Sometimes many at the same time) and have had no problems. As for safety. I assume you mean people hijacking your connection, I'm a noob myself but as long as you use an encryption key you should be ok.afaik

The updates in the US bricked SOME of the Wiis because they were shipped some versions of the Wii that had not had the proper firmware installed. The problem doesn't exist here.

I think I paid about 80 euro or something for it. As Damo said, the bricking thing only occured in the US. Mine updated OK and I haven't heard of any problems (You can bet yer bottom dollar that it'd be posted on Boards and all over the net if there was a problem). You could also use the USB adaptor for the DS but this needs to connect to your PC so the Wi-fi is probably the way to go if money's OK.

I don't have a wireless modem but have a wireless card in my laptop. Is there any way to allow the Wii to connect to the internet through the Wireless card on the laptop or will I have to get a Wireless modem to get the Wii online?

Do you have broadband? If your laptop is hooked up to a BB router then you can buy the Wi-fi USB dongle and it should work.

You need a router that supports b wireless standard. Most of them do now, ones that support g generally support b aswell. Just check the box.

This is from here say though but you should get one that supports b/g standards anyway.

I'd recommend a Linksys router as they are made by Cisco.

My Box is a Netopia model. And supports b/g and the Wii has worked fine with it.
Got mine for free though off my ISP.:D
You can get them fairly cheap now as far as I remember.

I do have the Broadband yea. I picked up a Wireless USB LAN Adapter the other day in Maplins. but I haven't been able to get it to work. I think I got the wrong piece of kit.

Okay I'm going to PC World at 3 and will report back after that. I've taken all your advice into consideration, thanks.

djkeogy, you can't use just any Wireless USB LAN Adapter. There is a specific Nintendo official one that works. Costs about 30 euro I think. They don't seem to have them in shops unless they are behind the counter and you have to ask or something like that.

Unofficial ones are generally designed for DS and don't seem to work with Wii.

    You need this:

Note that the box is a hell of a lot smaller than it looks.
