    NYE WITH YOUSEF!
Traditionally the big way to celebrate the New Year has always been with
Musiklab. Responsible for creating the most memorable finishes and starts
to each year since 2001, what they have lined up to see in 2007 is going
to top all that has gone before. The fact its headlined by the one and
only DJ Yousef, certainly sets it above any New Years that has gone
    before.

Yousef is the epitome of ‘the boy done good’. A 31 year old Scouser who
made his name by winning the Bedroom bedlam DJ competition some years ago,
which lead to an infamous residency at Cream, which was followed by the
2001 Musik awards Best Breakthrough DJ award, several mix compilations
including the DMC 2002 Compilation, starting his own clubnight, hosting
his own show on BBC Radio One, and now managed by Roger Sanchez’s manager,
the boy certainly has done good. The ‘Circus’ clubnight recently
celebrated its 4th birthday and was originally started as a hobby for the
DJ to play in his hometown. Although only planned to last 5 years Yos
admits he can’t see it stopping now “With our 2nd year at Creamfields and
a 2nd Circus compilation is also on the cards so why stop now?” The secret
to the nights success he feel’s has been its energy and diversity “The
Circus parties have a really good vibe and energy but on top of that I
want it to be a full palette, a broad musical spectrum. There’s usually a
well-known person at the top of the bill, me in the middle and
forward-thinking people that we bring in after that. Its important to keep
it fresh. Im out and about so much that when I see someone rock a crowd, I
    want to book them.”

But now Yousef is 31, things are changing a little. He says his wild days
are behind him which leaves him time to get his head down in the studio
and make great records to road-test. “The priority for me is to continue
making hot records” nods Yousef. “People are playing what I’m into I’m
developing a broader taste, I never went down the electro route at all
although I do enjoy electronic sounding music. Im into housey techno, not
soulful, good energy, mixed with personality but the kind of music that
picks up the ears from people like Nick Fanciulli, Steve Lawler, Roger
Sanchez and Deep Dish, who have been heavy supporters”. Further to his
‘trackier’ offerings Yousef has begun penning lyrics for his take on vocal
music. His latest drum bums EP ‘The Idea’ was Deep Dishs hot track at the
2006 WMC. Living in Ibiza this summer Yousef has made time to write a lot
more personal lyrics ready for his 2007 releases. Dj wise Yousef is
downloading a lot of techno. I love Sebastian Legers funky drums! Im
interested in people like Trentemoller and Nick Fanciulli, whos going down
the funkier techno route as well. I keep an eye on the Germans but I also
love Technsasia, and more recently Claude Von Stroke whose Canadian. In
short, Yousef has moved on “I like the funk but I’m not really into the
    boompty boomp any more.”

    Support Act Info:
TORANN: Yes the five piece drumming group know how to rock any venue, either supporting techno djs, indie djs, bands or house djs. These guys are much loved and their adrenalin fuelled percussion workouts are great crowd pleasers. This is their first appearance in Musiklab since Spraoi weekend and they always go down a storm.

DAZ & MARTIN: Residents in Shakedown since the summer the duo have been rocking the 2nd room of that club where they effortlessly mix house, disco and 80’s music. On most occasions they are joined by a multitude of live musicians and for this NYE event they have lined up percussion, bass & brass.

WILL POWER: Waterfords number one house DJ, he has played every venue & club the city has ever had. It’s not surprising given the dedication he has to house music, having an ear for great tunes and being one of the nicest guys you could possibly meet.
