I had a GSP before I had my brittanys and found them to be a great gundog. Just make sure you get one from very good working lines as they can be hard of mouth. They are a little restricted with their short coat, so if your a wildfowler say, or stand and shoot kind of guy then a different dog could be for you.

I have a German Wirehaired Pointer and can only say they are amazing, an excellent steady all rounder. I use her for deer, flushing game and retrieving.

Ive had my GSP for five years now.

Very steady on a bird lets you get up close to the bird...

Only fault with mine is he's not to fond of heavey cover and wont go into it unless theres a trail...

Other than that they make great companions in the field.

    Heres a couple of Pics:

    hey jimbo,

he looks like a twin brother of my fathers dog. They are a great hunting dog. Have our one for 3 generations, same bloodline. our one is not very fond of foxs, and if he comes across one, he will savage it and play with it like a rag doll....

was talking to a german lady that lives near us and she was saying they are very strict in germany with breeding the pointers. the dogs have to pass a series of tests prior to mating with the bitches, and the first test is if you leave a cat out in front of them, and they don't go to kill it, they fail the test, a little cruel but, thats breeding.....

he is very gental when retrieving pheasants, ducks, woodcock etc and never breaks the skin. and will go into anything...
can't say enough about the short hair.......
