Exhaust fan muffler

I've had my current pc for the last five years. I still have no need to upgrade given that its got enough power/resources to do all I need of it these days.

The one problem I do have with it though is that its ridiculously loud. Is there anything out there thats designed to tone down the noise created by the exhaust fan?

I may need to start running it through the night - and thats not an option in its current state.

You can get a dust filter, but they do not help one bit. I would reccomend a fan controller.

The zalman fan mate is the cheapest and easiest option. And only costs 5€

Or you could go for a front mounted fan controller so you dont have to open the case to adjust speeds.

That particular one has extra features like adding front mounted usb ports and card reader, aswell as audio ports and a digital temprature/fan guage.

Is it louder now than it used to be?

No. It was always that way. It was the machines only downfall back when I bought it. I was more concerned with performance/value for money - completely forgot about noise..

Heres something you could try. Remove the fan altogether and see if it changes your temps at all, or buy another fan that is quieter. I'm guessing if its 5y/o that you don't game on it, and that you only use if for IE browsing, emails and word documents (maybe the occasional DVD?) these won't stress your CPU to the point where they will need the added airflow of the exhaust.

Do you happen to have a picture of the inside of your case? We could help you with some cable management to help reduce temps also. Oh and how does your PSU expell air? Does it have a 12cm fan exhausting air from inside the case or a 8cm at the back.

Also download speedfan now, run it then take a screenshot of it and upload it so we can see what your idle temps are. Also download cpuz, run that and take a screenshot of that so we can see what your system specs are.
