I think that wherever you play you are going to have to beat good players.

Any of the three main casinos in town (Dublin) and anyone that posts on this forum almost always run a very good tournament.

If you start off at low buy-in then it will do no harm to come up against good players.

    check out www.thejackpot.ie
    www.fitzwilliamcardclub.com
    and www.thesportingemporium.com

Also check out vegasnights.ie and JJP Poker Mania (not sure of their web-site ut you can google them). Both of these guys run quality tournaments outside of card rooms.

You can also have a look at www.pokerireland.ie (a web-site that I have just set up).

    Best of luck.

Go to Jackpot 20+3 game on thursdays at 9pm, loads of new people there who are inexperienced live. It's good starting point for live tournaments.

All good advice given above. However, I don't think that you would be blown away by the level of players in most tournaments. In most small buy in games there are a mix of the new, the bad and the decent. I think the main thing you need to be concerned about for your own benefit is the etiquette involved in live paly, such as string betting, betting/folding in turn, never talk about a hand in progress, etc etc.

For information on the general things that will stand you in good stead playing live for the first time, read this stickied thread on the main forum, as it contains some good information on this area.

Good luck with it. If I had to give you two peices of advice for your first time playing live it would be this:

    1. Be courteous. No one likes arrogance at the table as you may have noticed from some of the threads here. you don't have to be anyones friend, but try not to be anyones enemy either. Most people are friendly and will treat you with respect as well as some mild slagging that can be expected off some of the regulars, but mostly in good fun. You will spot the arseholes yourself, and no need to concern yourself with them. Ignore them if they are giving you real sh1t.
    2. If you are not sure of something such as a string betting rule, or chip value then ask either the dealer (if there is one) or else another player.
