Sell faulty laptop or sell the parts

    I have a sony vaio z1/p notebook,

    1.3ghz pentium m, 60gb hard drive, 1450x1050 screen, dvd-rom/cdrw, 256mb ram, bluetooth/wifi, double capacity ~6 hour battery. maybe 3 years old in reasonable condition, specs like this (yep worth no where near their price) http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/sony-VAIO_PCG_Z1MP-laptop-1-nd2.htm

    The trouble is it's developed a fault a few months ago which I havn't been able to fix. Basically I have to press down on the heatsink to get the machine to switch on and boot. After heating up it's more stable (1 or two boots), able to browse web, watch dvd fine, but moving the laptop around too much or sometimes typing too hard on the keyboard will make it freeze up.

    My question is I don't really want to go down the road of getting it repaired, 'cause I don't think it's worth spending money on it, so should I try and sell it as semi-working/faulty or break it up and try to sell the parts. At the moment I might hang on to it a bit longer and use it as it is, but might want something newer and more stable in a few months. Any thoughts on what would be the best thing to do with it

    With the prices of lappies nowadays , you would be better off selling all working parts seperately IMO.

    youll probably get more for the screen on ebay than you would if you sold it as a full laptop

    No expert on such matters but have you tried re-applying the thermal compound between the heatsink and the CPU?

    Worth a shot and not exactly expensive.

    Yeah have taken it apart a few times and redone the thermal compound etc. Might try one or two more agressive approaches before I strip it down for parts, if thats what i decide to do :)
