Linked In - Whats the verdict?

I was asked to join this website. Was also informed how great it was for keeping in touch with other people in your industry and advertising/applying for work.

Anyone on boards use it?

Recruiters do use the site. You have to pay for it so don't see teh point in it. It's something like 20 a month.

I've been registered on it for the past 18 months or so. I've made a few decent contacts in my line through it & have received a couple of worthwhile job offers.
I have also had a few dodgy geezers contact me nosing for info on clients that I've worked for.
When all is said & done it's more suited for people in sales & recruitment or high-end execs.

Dunno where the €20 per month charge came from - I've not paid a sausage for the basic service.

That site is a pain in the ar$e. Received literally hunderds of calls in the past year or so from recruitment agencies cold calling the reception and asking for me. In the end one admitted that they got the details from linked in.

Deleted my profile and call volume dropped.

I saw someone I knew on it, clicked their name and it said something about paying or something so left it at that
