Decisions, Decisions...

Quick question lads, just for a bit of chat...

I'm going to invest in a Gap Wedge for next season. Too much of a disparity distance-wise between my SW and PW...

Anyway, I just can't decide what club to drop from my bag!

Thing is, I got new irons and I'm loath to leave any of them out cos I'm hitting them so well... The new irons mean I'll probably rarely use my rescue club for full shots so you'd think that'd be the obvious candidate for the chop, but I use it alot around the green so that has to stay... I carry an LW as well and I ain't gettin rid of that bad boy...

The only solution is to leave out the 3W but I weally weally like it :( Although I have to say I rarely use it. I get a fair bit of distance with the long irons and don't mind hitting em from the fairway so it looks like it's to be the 3Wood...

Or I could just cheat and carry 15. sure who'd know?! :);)

Anyone have/had to make an similiar decisions recently/ever? What was your thinking behind your eventual choice? Just for a bit of chat...

Don't make a decision - leave it up to the course and conditions! If you're playing a short tight course you might drop the driver... If the course has slow greens there is less of a need for the lw. If it's a long course the 3 wood is probably not needed from the tee and rarely from the fairway! If there are a good few shortish par 4's then you may not really need a long iron or two...

Also - it gives you a frame of mind that you are "planning for the course" before you even tee off... Positive mindset!

just my 2 cents from a guy who shanks lw's, tops drivers and slices 3 woods!

Let me know what you go with...

    It's like looking in a mirror! :)

Great shout though... I'm also a great believer in the positive mindset thing.

Alright, next question then (to everybody)...

I'm likely going to join Killeen this year... To those who know the course (Relatively forgiving off the tee on front 9 but water everywhere on back. Most Par fours of 'average' length, no monsters but no piddly little ones either), let's assume you're playing it on a windy wet day like you'd expect in January - what club would you leave at home?

OR... let's say you're playing it on a perfect, breezless, dry, warm day in July... What clubs gets the heave-ho then??

I couldn't imagine needing the 3Wood in summer cos I can hit the irons fairly solid with a bit of distance... The winter maybe a different proposition though.

If I was to recommend a club to join for anyone living in the naas/johnstown/rathcoole/celbridge area it would be Craddockstown.

Great location just off the Naas road (20 minutes from Leixlip), and a smashing course in great condition with some challenging hole layouts.

A gang of us went down in October and got a great welcome from members and staff alike. Nice restaurant & food too.

    D, 3W, Rescue, 3i -9i, PW, GW 52degrees, LW 60degrees, Putter = 14

I use this except 5w instead of rescue which i may decide on for next year... rarely use the 5w.
I don't carry a sand wedge, I use the 60degree lob from sand in close and GW for longer bunker shots and from 110yards inwards off fairway or rough...
The wedge is a titleist vokey...

Funny that, I have narrowed it down to the 3W or the SW... I also use my LW out of sand... But my SW is my 100yd club in summer so I reckons I'll need it once the ground dries out...

    B'AH! I dunno...

Well if you're happy with your SW from 100 yards in....
I found that a SW (56 degrees) would never go that far... in fact I had a 53 degree GW which I struggled with - it was comfortable from 90 yards but felt i needed to squeeze it to get 100 out of it, So I bought a 52 degree which is comfortable at 100 yards of carry and can squeeze to 110 if required.
I also use the GW for most of my chipping around the green.

Handiest thing to do is carry 15 when practicing and see how you feel, make your decision before each round depending on the course/conditions as delboy said.

Has me looking forward to next season already...

Due to play Mount Juliet on the 26th, it will be my first outing for a good few weeks (if the weather behaves).
