    Hi

I just won an eBay auction for the following system:

    Dell Inspiron 1300:

    Celeron M 380 1.60 GHz, 1MB
    8X DVD+/-RW
    1024MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x512
    60GB (5.400rpm) Hard Drive

All for 510 Euro....its scratched though...is this a good deal?

Should I go through with payment? All I really want is something for surfing the internet, email etc.

Seems to be a decent enough machine, especially if you only want it for browsing and email.

Did the seller go into any details on how "scratched" the system is? any other defects mentioned?

You'll have to go through a pay for it now if you won the auction.
You could have got the same model new on the Dell website for a few quid extra with a warranty on it and if you wanted then you could save money to get the upgrade on the memory elsewhere too.

Try and get Pentium or a Dual Core instead of the celeron, it will use less power and the battery will last longer. That said I bought a Celeron Inspiron 1300 with a similar spec except with a 120GB HD from the Dell outlet for €550 incl VAT & Del. I bought it for someone else and its a grand little machine for the price.

Lol, no its not a good deal.
Its second hand and scratched, with no warranty for €50 or so less than the same thing new. And are you including shipping in that price?

Also, have a carefull look at the ad on ebay - You'll probably find that the seller will want add 17.5% VAT on to it too, bringing it from a rip-off to a total joke.

btw, this is the worst possible time of year to buy a laptop. Everyone has just put their prices up in the last couple of weeks so that they can cash in on the christmas market then 'reduce' them for the sale in January.

well i saw the ebay ad and it's a dell outlet pc, so includes warrenty and vat and delivery. while not a bargain, I think it's not a bad deal for a budget machine, should be fine for what you need

I got it from the DELL Outlet on eBay. AFAIK the laptop is new just with a little scratch. The P&P is included in 510 price tag and it ships with the "standard DELL warranty" according to the blurb....what the standard DELL warranty is I don't have a clue...

Well, if that's the case, it isn't too bad a deal after all.

You'll find the sale prices in Jan are often dearer...
