I didn't find a better forum for this, sorry. Move it if needs be.

I've been asked by an egyptian friend of mine how he and his sister can get a long term (as opposed to a visit) visa for their mother.

They heard things like, if they apply for a long term visa and are refused, it will affect their chances of getting a visit visa later for her.

The mother has been visiting Ireland for a few years now at christmas on a visit visa.

The guy and his sister have been living here, legally (i don't think they've citizenship) for a few years now. Both working, but they wouldn't have a lot of moeny if they need money in the account to get a long visa.

Also some general questions on who to go to? And Does it sound likely? Would visa's be relativly easy to get for egyptians?

    Thanks! Hope you can help.

    James

Do they family have any European (EU specifically) grandparents?
If they do, can they get a passport from that country?
Once they have an EU passport, it would travelling here, much easier?

Is the Mother eligible to apply as a refugee?

Is the mother coming here to work? Is she above/below the retirement age?
The Irish embassies don't facilitate long term visas anymore (discretion only), she would need to prove she isn't going to seek asylum, health insurance and sufficient funds to sustain her in Ireland. If living with her children, they have to show proof of income and a letter stating they would be responsible for her during her stay in Ireland.
