1. completely ignore the core, you HAVE to get a HDD and the hdd on its own is 100eur so any savings are already gone.
2. it should do if you have component on the tv, failing that a vga cable can be bought as an extra and a convertor to dvi. (your hd-tv has to have atleast one of those connections )
3. AFAIK nope, perhaps if you have a fancy laptop with a video-in connection but that will probably not be hd anyway.
4. there was a good deal at xtra-vision going there, think it was premium console + pro evo6 + gears of war + another game, for around 500eur. If that was the case i personally wouldnt bother with ebay as its unlikely you could beat that and plus you have the added sense that you can just bring it back at the first sight of trouble.

We bought our 360 pretty much on impulse and therefore could only get our hands on the core package, but you really start to see how much you missed out on. The wireless controllers are great, and as mentioned above the HDD costs 100 euro on its own.
Plus, we got a hd tv recently and had to buy the cable to make it compatbile, afaik that cable comes with the pro package.
And I went looking into getting Xbox live recently, the wirelss network adapter costs €95 euro on its own and a year's prepaid subscription was around €55. The guy in Game told me that both came with the pro package.

Not sure about the best packages, I heard an ad on the radio for Smyths doing something like the pro package + Gears of War + Fifa 07 + 3 other games (probably of slightly lesser quality) for €499.

If you are going on the net, get the premium, if you will never EVER EVER go online, consider the core.

the pro does NOT come with the wireless adapter but it does have the standard network cable which if you are close to your router is better and you only get a 1 month sub to live. It does come with the hd component cable and an adapter to use it as a sd scart cable instead(but you dont want that ). The wireless controllers are great but you need one of those chargers which are another 15 or so euros. wired controllers work perfertly on a pc too which is a nice bonus.

Bit of a difference though between €95 wireless adapter and €5 ethernet cable

P.S. Core comes with 1 months Live Sub/Trial too, or at least mine did.
