    Hi,
Just rang up tech support but after 10mins of talking to them they couldn't help solve the 'no satelitte signal is being received' problem.
Now i have to get an engineer out to fix the dish as she said the strong winds might have knocked it outta place. How much do the sky engineers cost does any1 know? Has anyone in the dublin area had this problem lately?

You could get a sat meter for ~€15 on ebay and fix it yourself...

That's presuming alignment is the problem though.

I was on to them for ages. They did the test and it turns out that there was a signal lock, so they said it had to be the SCART cables and all. I'm well able to tell there was nothing wrong with that.

We had storms (Mayo) so I went out to look. All the bolts looked fine.. but I looked at the electrical-taped wire that goes into the dish itself (into the front) and gave it a gentle push in just in case it had been dislodged.

    Problem fixed.

Did they do the signal-lock test with you on the phone, Bubba?

In case they didn't, press the Service Button, then System Setup > Signal Test. You should have some sort of signal strength and quality (mine is 65% and 55% or so) and the Lock Indictor should say OK. If it says OK, then, they say, you are aligned... so check your connections.

I am not a technician of any kind. Caveat lector.

This could be worth a shot, have come across it a few times. Go into the installers menu ("services" "4" "0" "1" "select") and into lnb set up, make sure the lnb power supply is ON. Seen it off on few no signal problems.

I have Services > 4 but no 0 after that.

Not sure if this is helpful but I have a current subscription to SKY, installed last December . Our second box had same error messages following the storms in Sept. I rang and the diagnostics ran didn't clear it. One lot of engineers came out but were insisting the fault was with the box as the other sky box was working fine. They couldn't fix it . Next lot came out today - went on the roof and something was broken (due to the storms) so fixed it. This was all for free. I'm not sure if it was because the fault happened within one year or is it standard to get free maintainance when under contact? Maybe someone could let me know . Cheers

Interesting. No problems there, though we are still getting intermittant problems with reception. Something's loose somewhere, I guess.

What's the best number to ring ?

I've exactly the same problem since the storms the other week... No signal at all. It's probably a loose cable or something, but I don't have a ladder, so I can't even check it

Borrow a ladder if you do not have one and take a look.
However you can probably call sky and tell them to cancell your sub as you cant afford an engineer or new equipment... a lot of people find they are only too happy to send someone for free or send a new box/dish etc.

My dish got knocked out of place at the beginning of September. Left it for awhile, then rang Sky about 10 days before the Ryder Cup. They told me it would cost €100 (which I think excluded anything that needed replacing) and they wouldn't be able to come out for two weeks.

Had a look in the classifieds in the local paper, and rang a number. They came out the following day and charged €65 which included the replacement of our dish and LNB (Only the LNB needed replacing, but as his one wouldn't fit onto our existing dish, he installed a brand new dish).

Essentially, if you can get somebody locally to do it for less than €80, you'll probably get better value. As suggested, if the dish is in any way accessible, then it's probably worth having a look at it yourself before you call someone. It could just be a loose bolt that a wrench will solve.

But also try the following. Go to the " 'Services' > 4 > 0, 1, Select " menu. Press '1', for LNB Setup. Switch both the LNB Power Supply, and 22KHz Command to OFF. Save your changes, then press Sky. Wait a few seconds, then go back into the menu and switch them back on. Again, save the changes, then get out of the menu and check your signal (Services > 4 > 6). It probably won't have fixed the problem, but on occasion this will sort it out.

    That seems to have worked!!

    Thank you!!
