So finally got my mac working and am in the process of getting it online and so on (woohoo typing on boards from a mac!)

But I was setting up Azurus the torrent program...and it keeps saying i have a NAT error, I have no idea what this is, so does anyone know how this could be fixed?

    please?

I think that just means you need to choose a different port, try going to Tools and then NAT/Firewall Test until you can find a suitable port to use.

I just sorted this out last night.

Azureus's online wiki help thing is fantastic, but here's my oar:

NAT problem means your router isnt forwarding the ports correctly (unless your ISP is blocking ports). If your ISP is blocking the port, try some different ones (azureus>preferences>connection).

If you're using a router, log onto the router (usually 192.168.1.1) and make sure that it assigns your mac a static IP (I chose 192.168.1.2, but it's of no consequence, just make sure you note it). Then look for a Virtual Server option (it may be called NAT/Port Forward or something siimlar) and create a new rule in there, something like this:

    TCP
    Port Start: X
    Port End: X
    Port Range: X
(where X is the port you've specified in Azureus>pref>connection)

Do the same for 'UDP', using the same value for X.

Apply the above rules to the IP address of your mac. Reboot the router, and you're done.

Check out www.portforward.com if you're still stuck.

^-- What NBM said; look through the wiki & do some experimenting; once you've set it correctly, you'll be flying' :)
Also, try out Tomato Torrent or Bits On Wheels as more compact torrent apps.

FYI: Transmisson I have found to be excellent.

    Simple, straightforward and it works.

Transmission's good, but I don't think it works with all Torrent sites.

I gave the xTorrent beta a go recently, and I haven't looked back. Easy to use, seems compatible with more sites, and has a great built-in search engine.
