Medion PC Fan stays on ???

    Hi guys,

Hopefully one of you can shed some light on this. I have a medion PC bought in LIDL approx 2 years ago. I just had the motherboard replaced on it under warranty (model MS-7091).

The processor (P4 3.4GHZ) has a fan mounted over it which kicks in on startup & then usually goes off then until it's doing some serious crunching (such as video) when it comes on again.

Ever since the motherboard replacement, the fan is now staying on. It's extremly noisy & annoying. I got back in to the repair guy who did the replacement & he told me a bios update should solve the problem, I did it, but it made no difference at all. Can anyone tell me how I might rectify the problem ?

One other question, I wanted to upgrade to Vista but I have a wireless lan in the system (RaLink Tech RT2500 USB model). The Vista upgrade advisor says I need updated drivers which are up on the RaLink website but I've heard there's huge problems with them... Any suggestions ?

    TIA

Sounds like your power management settings in Windows are interfering with the fan operation. Try going into power in control panel, and set it to use "minimal power management". That should let the BIOS look after it itself.

Go into the bios, And look for " pc health " or similar. You should be able to manually control the cpu fan in there. Or it could simply be that the bearing in the fan is on its way out and is causing a racket. You could just buy a silent cooler.

Something like this will be very quiet:

    Or this for extreme silence:
