Distributing Video Content

    I am part of a club that wants to distribute video content of club activities for a year. This would entail nearly 100 clips, ranging in length from 10mins to an hour. We want only authorised personal to gain access them.

    I was thinking of hosting them on a web server somewhere and upload and download them from there but the bandwidth cost may be very large.

    Has anyone got any ideas how i could do such or is there any service/company out there for doing this, distributing video content?

    www.dreamhost.com increase your space and transfer allowances on a weekly basis. As it stands I get an extra 1GB space and 16GB transfer a week.

    Thats some savage bandwidth! You find them reliable? American based is it? They do windows hosting, would prefer that?

    Yes, American-based.

    I find them pretty reliable, and they have a great detailed Wiki so I have never had to contact their support personally (not sure if thats a good or bad thing :) ). I also but their Level 1 (lowest cost) package, so the more you buy the more it increases by.

    Why dont you just upload them to a torrent site ? Just .rar the file and encrypt it ?

    That way you don have to pay for any bandwidth bills or hosting fees. Although this would nto be the fastest way to do it. And some of your membes might not like the idea of downloading torrents. Even if they are legal. So Aidans idea is probably your best option at the moment

    Trying to look for the ost straight forward way also as the members of my club would not be very computer literate! :eek:

    Yeah torrents owuld make it a bit harder. You could also just stick all the videos onto dvd's and charge the members for the cost of the media + postage.

    That would work out considerably cheaper then getting a host.
