Hi, i have convinced my wife to get me a motorised satellite set up for christmas. That seems to be the easy bit,i have been on ebay having a look but can't pick a system cause there are so many. Can anyone advise me which system to go for as a hobbyist. What box, What dish, and what motor.

    Thanks.

Don't buy it on ebay. Look at the stickies here.

Box: 70 to 150 no CAM (= Free TV only), CAM only for non-Sky sub. add 100
    Dish: 80cm to 110cm, about 50Euro to 100Euro
Motor: Stab, Metronic or Motek, Diseqc 1.2 + GotoX, about 100 Euro
    Connectors
CT100 or PF100 or similar coax
Satmeter to help with alignment 35 Euro
    Pole
    K T brackets

Check out the sticky. people have bought stuff and you can get support.

The LNB is of unknown type (0.2dB does not mean anything)
    The Motor I know.

This is an expenisive price for eBay, maybe close to €340 landed here.

I have bought lots from ebay, but generally where I am am expert and it is a bargain or unobtainable. No point in buying commoditiy items easy to get and pay a high street price.

The Satcatcher Voyager III might be ok, but I know nothing about it. It sounds like somthing for the expert, Zaphod might know.

But the price is way to high for ebay.

Go and look at this stuff in Maplin if possible (Not the cheapest at all) on line or in shop. check out hmsat.de and satellite.ie
