I was going to start a new blog at blogger.com, but when I read their terms and conditions I had a rethink. It said, although I retain copyright over my content, I give Blogger a non-exclusive worldwide license to use content created by me to promote Google. I can't find the page that says that now, it showed up on sign-up, but that's more or less what it said. I don't think I want to give that to Blogger.

I found that link to the ts & Cs :https://beta.blogger.com/terms.g

    Quote:
    6. Intellectual Property Rights ....You or a third party licensor, as appropriate, retain all patent, trademark and copyright to any Content you submit, post or display on or through Google services and you are responsible for protecting those rights, as appropriate. By submitting, posting or displaying Content on or through Google services which are intended to be available to the members of the public, you grant Google a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish and distribute such Content on Google services for the purpose of displaying and distributing Google services. [My emphasis]

It's pretty common as far as I'm aware. If you don't want to give them that privilege then it's not expensive to get hosting, a domain name and install blogging software.

Yes, I'm looking at Wordpress and that's the road I think I'll be taking.

I've done similar myself, it is worth it for the extra freedom and control you have over it.

Not only a nice package, and dead easy to get to grips with, but there are plenty of nice add-ons too.

from what i understand, that condition simply implies that they can host your blog on their site and earn moeny from google ads at the same time.

if they didnt have that condition then you could turn around at some point in the future and sue them for any monies they earned by hosting your blog.

i dont knwo what it says around the terms of the site, but for most online sites, that permission is only implicit for works currently published via the site.
once you delete a post from their servers they have no more rights over it.

Blacknight.ie do a nice little package for bloggers, with everything thrown in at a good price.

And before I'm accused of pimping, I don't work for 'em!

Get wordpress and your own domain. With hosting and the domain it won't cost you more than €40 a year.
