    I think 'The Haughey Hole' was bandied about after CJ left us (and after some senator suggested we commemorate the man in some way... although I think his suggestion was a statue outside the IFSC).

    hmmm...
    How about:
    The Hole by the Pole (in reference to the City Centre end),
    or The Pole's Hole (in reference to the huge number of polish construction workers in Ireland)
    eh... the Liffey t'the Fiffy (M50) Tunnel
    Cullen's Chunnel / Cullen's Tunnel
    The Gap in the Map

    ... and that's why I still haven't gotten the job as Official Designator of Slang Terms for Dublin Landmarks... one day...

    "An tunnail dubh" - "black hole " - I'm sure tunnel is spelt differntly in irish ?

    Or how about just calling it " THE PORTER"
