    Halfway there now!

    Random thoughts:

Isn't this a loose remake of a similar original series episode?

Never really cared for the Kat character but had a lump in my throat towards the end :) Thought it was kinda ironic though with Kara talking down to Kat saying she didn't deserve to be in the company of such 'good people'

Great to see crazy Baltar back, and hence some plot progression - i just knew he was going to do something nutty when he approached the Hybrid.

Some great visuals by the special effects crowd and loved the music in this ep (new music is it?).

The Bad: I think we've reached the point where the writers can't keep killing off secondary characters (Ellen, Jammer, Kat) - they're going to need to knock off a main character soon methinks.

Yep twas a good one but they need a little more action soon.

Was expecting Baltar to jump in with the Hybrid myself. I also wonder did she pass more to him that just what she said, just looking at the way he rolled his sleeve down??

what is with the threesomes! lol lucky git!

alright episode...didn't care much for Kat but they made a good story for her.

So the other five models are between life and death?

I can just see Balthar becoming the Cylons' Jesus or something...he is even growing the beard! :P

    It was crap!
This one just didnt connect with me at all.
How the fcuk is it that Starduck only has to see Cat's boy friend for one second from a hundred yards away while you'd imagine she'd have plenty of other more important things on her mind and she instantly knows that he's essential to the plot development  and then she has to follow him around?

The whole having to fly through danger scenario seemed quite contrived too.

Best bit by far: "paper shortage":D

After the last kinda weird episode, I felt this was a nice back to basics episode, that they actually need to gather food (or stuff to make into food) instead of walking up to a replicator or something.

I'm surprised Baltar didn't strip and dive into the tub with the hybrid and start making out with her.
    That man has stamina!

    It was crap!
The food thing was a little contrived. 'I know we've never mentioned this before but everyone is starving to death and we need food immediately. There just happens to be some on the other side of all that radiation'

If they'd mentioned the food shortages before it woulda been a big deal that they found some but as it was it was just there to give them something dangerous to do it seemed.

Kat's demise was well done though, never particularly liked her but did feel for her in that episode. Of course the most interesting bits were with Baltar... You gotta love how those Cylons treat their prisoners!

Well, the food thing was due to to the processing machines contaminating the supplies.

But I thought it strange that no one on Galactica mentoned jumping around the radiation cluster. Surely they couldve tightened their belts for a few extra days.

They did, they said it was too big to go around when they were discussing how to get through it.

    It was crap!
It was also IMHO a bit contrived that they were able to successfully predict there would be a planet with food on it right in the middle of this impenetrable area.

There was one scene early on where Starduck was staring in her demented way at Cat while fiddling with a big sharp knife. It did cross my mind at that time that maybe they were going to get real dark and edgy and introduce a bit of cannibalism......

    Lol!

I thought it was a better ep than last weeks... but not altogether on top form.

Nice to see them back in the ships again... Kara still needs to get her act together. The starvation did come on a bit strong alright. I hope Tigh can keep it together, moany doesnt suit him. Hope they give us some edge-of-the-bed shouting-at-the-screen goodness before the series end

T'was a good episode alright but I didnt want them to kill off kat I liked the character, she was always the one shouting over the com when they were flying around in raptors/vipers.

I was hoping to see more but then they killed her off :(

    Although she kinda commited suicide.

    It was okay...
    The highs for me:-
    paper shortage :)
baltar does threesomes like nobody else!
special effects; nice to see some damage on the raptors
body count rising; not just Kat, but loosing other ships too with lots of civvies...I'm guessing we will see 'the board' next episode with a much reduced fleet count.

The lows for me this episode:-
Tigh's return. I like the character, but I don't like the way he just swans back in like nothing happened. That's a bit too easy for my tastes.
clyon interiors.. it's getting a bit old at this point. Don't they have any interesting parts of a baseship to show us yet?

Over all I gave it an 8/10 (or equiv.) because I enjoyed it and it's nice to see a return to some imminent menace/danger episodes rather than the flashback and morally questionable types.

Not sure where the 5 cylons thing is going.. but that's a good thing. I can wait :o

i thought this was an ok episode, better then the boxing one but still disappointing compared to the first few.
an another note does anyone know the name of that classical song that is on when ever it goes over to balter and the cylons ?

Good ep loved all the Baltar scenes. Lucy Lawless getting yummier every ep.

Loved the ship damage and the effects.

Like seeing the memorial halls as well gives the show a little more edge showing the people who have past.

As always lookin forward to the next one

Don't like Kat, so didn't really get the intended emotional impact of that. Alright story (Kat's, not the re-hashed water, eh, I mean food shortage) but they dragged it out a bit and I got bored with her before the end.

Liked Teigh's stuff, didn't think it felt too easy having him walk back in. He's been sulking for weeks now - and Geita shot him an awful look.

Baltar was particularly brilliant in this episode I thought. Has Lucy Lawless been in every episode this season so far? Certainly not complaining but I thought she only signed up for a handful.

Would very much like to see Dean Stockbot back - that model has been conspicuous in his absence ever since they got off New Caprica.

I thought this was an awful episode, in fact, I enjoyed the previous 'filler' episode considerably more. Although, as always, the Baltar/Cylon segment was very interesting. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 779 ✭✭✭mcgarnicle

Pretty bad episode. The idea of a planet with food stuck inside a killer nebula was retarded. The attempt to fill in the Kat character with false substance to add weight to killing her off was pathetic.

Also had to laugh at Starbuck's comment about "good people", from what I can tell there are no good people on Galactica and if there are we certainly haven't been shown any.

Though it pains me to say it, this was the first episode of BSG I've watched that I thought "this is crap".

The writing is where it all fell down. Jane Espenson should not be let near another BSG script. The clapping when Tigh came onto the bridge was such a cliché and it was even repeated when Kat came out of her burned ship.

The paper shortage gag was terrible and yet they laugh for half an hour. Cringe cringe cringe. I guess Ron Moore didn't get round to checking this script.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

See I thought this was far better than the boxing crapfest.

Sure Kat wasn't an interesting character and it's a cheap move to try and deepen her before killing her but given there's not much dimension to nearly any of the secondary characters, it didn't actually bother me. It also allowed a little bit of background on how the Cylons seeded themselves among the inner planets.

The clapping was no more clichéd than when people clapped Adama etc - it's hardly unprecedented. And I liked the filthy look Gaida gave him during it. I imagine that Tighe's rough time on Cylon-occupied Caprica has earned him a lot of kudos amongst the crew (many of whom don't know, for example, that he was involved in the executions).

The paper gag worked for me because it was so inane - they were going into hysterics at a stupid gag, one they knew was dumb themselves which made it good (if you follow that train of logic). And it makes a kind of sense too - less report writing is good for them.

And regardless of the A-plot, the B-plot of Baltar really clinched the deal here and showed one of the major reasons I disliked the previous one. I'm fascinated by the unseen 5 models and this whole part where they're seen in death by Xenlon is intruiging. Love everything about it, including a return visit to Ms End-of-Line.

Looking forward a lot more now to the cliffhanger next week.

It's not Passacaglia. It's a theme written by Bear McCreary specially for the scenes with Baltar on the Basestar, to give them a unique feel.

Really liked everything on the side in this episode, the whole food thing was quite weak in general, notice how the crew were fine when the food shortage wasnt mentioned, then at first word they all start to look 3 stone lighter and half dead for it, pretty poor form. However everything else in the episode was top notch, the look Gaita gave Tigh was done perfectly imo, and the Baltar side of things advanced nicely, very interesting explanation of the other 5 models, Im liking where that story is going.

As for Kat, she didnt have much depth, but for a minor charecter they handled her death quite well, but I think they should have started giving her a back story 2 or 3 episodes ago to make her death have a bit more of an impact. Pretty good flexing of the SFX team too, they done damn fine work in this episode.

    1. We dont need more action i mean we get gold dialog and storyline almost 100% of the time and when there is action we get amazing action.
Im happy with the way its going i have no craving to see a fight resurrection ship part II and Exodus part II mean i don't get a action craving.

    2. I Doubt that Baltar got some secret message because to me sometimes it feels like we the viewer are baltar or something like that because he has no secrets from us, we know everything he does

I laughed as much as they did you know you care about a show when you find something as funny as the characters acting in it

I was thinking about that. Six used the excuse that Cylons project environments to explain how why the ship was so bland. It was interesting in that it tied in with Baltar's projections, but we've seen from the work they were doing on Caprica in "Downloaded" that the Cylons do have an eye for aesthetics.

i always found that odd, why bother restoring a city/planet to its original form with parks and the like if you can simply choose not to see the bodies or the rubble and simply project a nice image.

Perhaps the cylons wanted to re-populate the planet with human cylon hybrids, gods new generation might not be able to full project?
