I had a secondary hard disk in my computer which worked fine. when working on a friends computer I swapped his hard disk with my secondary one but it wouldnt work.

Now when I re-connected my second hard disk it wont work. When I try to open it it says "D:/ refers to a location that is unavailable..."

    Any ideas? Cheers:)

Is it showing up under Disk Management? Start->Run->compmgmt.msc in the box and then scroll down to Disk Management

    but not in BIOS setup.

    Is this any help?

Do you have a second pc in the house, try and put it in their and see if its the same problem. Are the jumpers placed in the correct slot on the hard-drive?

I have it connected it up the same way I did before when it worked but now I can't access it. I reformated my hard disk and now its working fine but I need to access my friends hard disk but dont want to lose the information.

Why did I need to format the hard disk after removing it then putting it back?
Its just a hassle more than anything, any ideas would be very much appreciated!

It should work no problems at all. I often do it with my pcs ( swapping hdds over to move files )

It could be your friends pc assigned it a dfifferent drive letter. And when put back in yours the drive letter was already assigned...possibly
