DS is normal DS also known as "phat DS" [its the first version, bigger, chunkier]
DS lite is the newer version also known as "DS Lite" [its Small, and well....Lite]

DS Lite might be more expensive, they all come in different colours, i think DS Lite colors are more rdily abailable, such as pink for girls.

Ds Lite is the newer version so id recommend it, its very nice and slick.
Im not sure about argos but GAMESTOP [one after u cross liffey] is where i got mine, 160 for ds + game [or was it 170 :S]

The Lite is smaller and much nicer looking. Also has a better, brighter screen.

I'd definitely recommend the Lite as the machine to have, but if your daughter is fairly young I think the 'Phat' DS might be able to withstand being treated like a toy more without getting scratched to bits.

Not sure though, I haven't owned a phat. Maybe someone else can comment on it?
