LOL, I remember a guy had this for sale on Adverts for 5e.

I offered him 5e to see a video of the destruction of it. Never happend though, my offer still stands for anyone who has a disk lying about.

Must be retail, not OEM :)

Back OT, its seems like a good price if you feel the software is of benefit.

Norton Internet Security is total cack .... Use Linux instead

Norton is poor software, it's on your desktop annoying you 24/7 and when a virus actually infects your computer it is nowwhere to be seen. Support is bad. To be avoided like the plague

At least make a fair comparison. Linux is an OS, or more correctly a kernel. NIS is an appliction. Dont underswtand how you can compare the two.

I've been using AVG for years and I've never had a virus. (I scan my PC regularly with two different online scanners- McAfee and Symantec so I know I'm virus free.)

I highly recommend EWIDO(http://www.ewido.net/en/). great for removing sypware, adware, trojans, dialer, keylogger and worms.

    and it's free...

NOD32 antivirus and AVG antispyware is the most comprehensive AV and AS packages you can get. They are also light on resources.

Wow, great price! Unfortunately I got NIS 2006 with more than 2x that price.... :(

    EDIT:
There is nothing here about the subscription... Would that mean you have to pay separately for their updates??

    Now, off topic:
And for those who rant about Norton. Okay, it's far from being great but is the best out there... AVG? All it does is popping up stupid windows, last time that was called adware not antivirus... NOD32? I tried it as well, didn't seem that trustworthy to me... Light in resources, that's true... but what's the point if you don't feel safe?

Norton slows down your system, viruses may sneak out, but still, I recommend it... Support is bad... I have been infected couple of days after I purchased it... I contacted support, it took me a lot of time to convince them that I was infected even NAV scan said everything is great... Sent them the virus... after a couple of months I even got an answer, they found it :)

The N AV reliable enough and when some trojan or something gets in your system the IS notifies when it tries to access the internet... So you are as safe as you can be when using Windows IMO...

BitDefender MAY be a solution, I have used it some years back... it had that annoying issue that most of the updates required restart... But I heard that is not an issue anymore.

I've used NIS and McAfee and tbh with you even with the fastest of pcs it does drain the resources. I've actually uninstalled McAfee from a few people's pc's (not willing to pay subscription) and installed AVG and Zonealarm firewall. Been using them for yrs and never any problems and good on the resources. Also try AntiVir Personal also seems good.

AVG, ZoneAlarm/Sygate/Sunbelt Kerio, Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware personal (All free) you should be fine :)

why do people install firewalls, xp has one in it, and adding a second only slows boot up time, and leaves less ram for the rest fo the system

think this thread should be moved to security or windows

If only for Goback, this is a good deal (it's about €40-60 alone!) - it comes on a seperate cd so no newed to install the other crap!

NIS is pants, I agree, slowed my laptop down soooo much til I switched back to Zonealarm and tried AVG.

    It is what it's.

Because the windows one is limited compared to other ones. :D You don't add a second one, you replace the windows one. If you have a hardware one on your router then you probably don't need one, unless of course you use a laptop and WiFi and connect to other networks on the move,

I've install AVG on hundreds of machines over the years, and never had that sproblem. You've either not installed it right or you are running the trial and not the freeware

I get a lot of machines to fix with have Nortons on them. It slows the machine down massively, and seems to cause no end of problems. I'd steer well clear. it doesn't even find all the things that some of the free antivirus find which is more worrying.

AVGfree, ZoneAlarm, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, X-Cleaner, Use Firefox and you'll have must less hassle and they are all freeware. There are alternatives to but theres no need to pay for this kinda software.
