    Good day all,

Yesterday when I was leaving college I was packign away everything when I pulled on the power cable for my external HD and it feel on to the ground...:( :(

Today I was checking if it was okay ( I thought the fall wasn't too bad to damage it-I was wrong! ) and I found that when I put the usb cable in to my laptop that it would turn on, like normal-but the HD wasn't popping up on my laptop. The light was on at the front of the HD but normally rotates when plugged into the laptop.

Is there anyway of fixing it by myself or should I send it away to get fixed?

Can you recommend anywhere in the dublin area where they would be able to fix it?

Note. I got my external from Komplett.ie. It's a Western Digital also.

it's got a Hard drive in it.

If the hard drive is damaged then you are looking at several hundred to recover data from it. :(

if the usb interface is damage you can put the hard drive in a new box
or disconnect your cd rom on a desktop and connect the hdd to that cable

Your best bet is to disassemble it and try plugging the hard disk directly into a computer. You can then see if you can access it, and if not, run some diagnostic utilities (manufacturers provide these on their websites.) This will inform you whether you have actually damaged the hard disk (and whether there is any hope.)

Unfortunately hard disks aren't really economically repairable, it's cheaper to just buy a new hard disk (the only reason you attempt repair is for data recovery purposes.) Is the data important, or did you have backups?

Yeah I had loads of movies (around 40), some work on it, loads of photos etc.
Hopefully I can recover some of the stuff :(:(:(:(
