Is getting a wii from play-asia.com a good alternative? I thought I read somewhere that unlike the SNES etc, there is no US/JPN/PAL models, but only 2 now, so is the one on play-asia the same as the ones for sale here?

If not, what are the differences and will they work here?

Is there any other sites selling the ones we get here besides Ebay?

The Wii is region encoded. Japanese games won't work on US systems, US games won't work on European systems, European games won't work on... etc.

Can that be hacked do you know? :) Not sure if that's ok to ask or not:confused:

It's still too early to be asking that question. Sure... they can be hacked, but it'll take some time for this to happen.

Until then I hope you have a firm grasp of kanji my gaijin friend.

Hmm, so getting it from play-asia may not be such a bad idea then, well for the likes of wii sports and wii-play, I'm sure Zelda would be impossible in Japanese:D

I wonder are the hacking community busy at it as we speak...

You will more than likely be hit for import duties on the wii.
Also it'll probably take two weeks - maybe three considering it's christmas - to reach you, going on my experiences of play-asia.

Why can't you just wait a few weeks and get one here? I don't understand all this impatience :o

If there's a quick buck to be made (which there is) then I'd assume that the people who are "in the know" are already at work.

I'm hoping that Datel are looking into it. A Wii version of freeloader would be awesome. I don't particularly want to hard-mod my Wii if I can help it. It would be great to play some of the Jap import titles that will never be released here.

I saw that this morning too Lex.

The hacking community are indeed busy. There are website showing you how to make your own home-made wireless sensor bars, another group dedicated to bringing linux to the Wii (DVD playback maybe?), so it's all awesome.
Man, what's with the huge number of Wii channels btw. What's going to fill them up? There's reams of empty spaces.

I'm hoping for something that will allow you stream Divx/Xvid movies/shows off a server over your home network.

A MythTV frontend on the Wii would be incredible.

For anyone who is going to buy from PlayAsia.

    Please use this link: http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-51pd-71-bt-49-en-84-k.html

I get a small commision and as a student, I need all the money for games I can get.

Bit pointless using the link because the games won't work here.
