What energy technology to put in a new house?

    Hi folks

My friend is buying a new house, newly built and should be completed by April next year. I have offered my help in deciding what heating systems and energy systems to put in place. So what I have decided to do is get all the options and then apply them for the house type, taking into account cost, running cost, grants but mainly the environmental impact.

Its a 1000sq foot over 3 levels. I don't know the insulation spec yet but its being investigated.

    I have the following:
    • Oil fired central heating
    • Wood pellet boiler/stove
    • Biomass boiler
    • Ground heat pumps
    • Solar power

What i'm hoping you can help me out with is where to get information to be able to apply each technology to the specific house type and come up with a predicted cost and environmental impact.

I'm hoping to get all the info together and produce some sort of document that i can then give to others so they can easily assess their options when it comes to similar projects. And ultimately use it myself when i build my self sufficient habitat (a dream for now but one day i will build this place).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

there must be a growing allergy towards search engines these days!

Sustainable Energy Ireland would be a good starting point, their resources page seems to cover what you're looking for.

Why not avoid the issue of heating and make a passive house? 1000ft2 is not much floor area and with the right design you should not have to fit any heating at all.
No heating is a zero sum when it comes to environmental impact.
6000 houses in germany have been built this way so its not new technology merely taking existing technology and refining it.
    This is a starting point.
