Using biofuel for home heating

    Hi folks

Does anyone know or aware of anyone who is using the biofuel that is sold as a vehicle fuel for their home heating.

Can you adapt your boiler to burn this fuel? Is it advisable?

Any comments or suggestions would be great.

    Thanks

Great forum, learning loads from all your experiences and comments

Don't know of anyone using it but you could enquire with Kroll UK they do a burner that will run on biofuel. You will probably need preheaters etc. to keep the biodiesel flowing in low temperature conditions. I think that burner costs about £760 sterling.

Good question and one I've often wondered about myself.

Bound to be something in the future that we can pour into our oil tank and run through the boiler instead of kerosene, just like what's happening in diesel cars.

Can be done all right ,but is it worth the bother? The home heating oil you use is green dyed diesel/kerosene,to be charged at a lower vat rate.It is the same as Agricultural diesel, which is illegal to use in on road vechicles. So all you are doing is pouring a legal biodiesel into your heating tank, instead of into your car tank.
If you are talking of using raw plantoil, chip oil, etc. You will need all the preheating equipment etc.Plus hopefully a chipper next door to you to keep your tank topped up with waste chip oil.:D
