Have a Philips 32" TV & dvd Recorder.
When I record something of the TV the picture colour on the recording is not as good as watching the tv.
Do I need a better quality scart cable or is there another reason?

Do normal dvds movies look okay?

If so then it might be your recording quality settings. There is a compromise between how many hours you can fit on a disc and picture quality.

If not then check the dvd recorder settings and make sure RGB is being output on the scart. Make sure the scart lead is plugged into scart 1 on the tv. Sometimes scart 2 will not take rgb.

When I switch to the DVD channel ( ext 1) on the TV the picture has not got the same colour qualtity, even before I record.
    Is this normal?:(

No - it should be good. Check the recorder is outputing rgb on the scart first.

I setup a philips for a friend over a year ago - so I can't remember and don't have the manual.

Scan through the manual and see can you see any references to video out - s-video/composite/rgb.

Have a scout around the menu system.

If you have the model number, you can get the manual on the philips site.

Come to think of it, it was a pioneer player that was outputing in svideo by default. So maybe this is not the case on a philips - i donno.

Anyway, i know for sure that the picture settings like colour, brightness, contrast etc on a philips tv can be different for each input. So while your tuned tv channels may have these settings at normal levels, the settings on EXT1 may be non optimal. Just switch to ext1, press menu and play about with the picture settings.
