As promised we are posting to give details about our upcoming €5000 guaranteed poker classic being held in the Gold Club Casino in Letterkenny on Friday 29th December.
This will be a €200 buy in tournament. The starting stack is 10,000 and there will be a 30 minute clock with every blind level being represented. After the first 5 blind levels there will be a break with some light refreshments provided. After the break the blind level will be 200-400 with a running ante being introduced.
Tournament starts promptly at 8 with doors opening on the day at 4pm with sattelites starting straight away. There will be €20 STT's running with the winner gaining entry and €40 STT's with the top two gaining entry. We are also hoping to have a few sweat Omaha hands for entry as the start of the tournament approaches...ah they're always good craic!!
We hope to far surpass a €5000 prizepool and anything over this guarantee will go straight back into the prizepool with a 100% cash payout guaranteed, and with a transparency required in a tournament of this type.
Please reply with any queries you may have and we will reply as promptly as possible. Thank you, GCC.

looks like a decent enough event. is there any pre-requisties such as how much is it to join? is there any reg fee on the tournament?

200 buy in to win 5000? Seems a bit steep. Don't want to knock you in any way but online you get a seat for $20 for a $5000 tourney.

you need less than 25 players for an overlay....

Yes all of the above replies are true however we are hoping to have a bigger prizepool than €5000. With regard to the comment about the overlay, experience has shown that you can expect 70 players at a tournie and only 20 show up, the guarantee is merely to guard against this and make sure that if it does happen it is still worth your while being here for the tournament.
There are no pre-quisites, just that you become a member and membership is free. Reg for the tournament is €20. There is a waitress service available at all times, all teas coffees etc. are free of charge.
Online you need to beat more people if the buy in is less obviously. This is a tournament set in a friendly environment for those who enjoy live play. All comments are appreciated and replies will be ongoing, GCC

how many do you normaly get for your tournaments? also i would suggest that you give away a ticket or two from your games during the week to this, it should provide an easier way for people to get in and guaranteed numbers. is it 200+20 or 180+20?

how many do you expect for this?

This is 200 euro plus 20 reg. We get varying numbers for our weekly tournaments and are constantly getting more and more new players as we are only in our first few months of business. This is our first 200 FO and so we are really pushing it in terms of advertising etc. We would hate for peoples's first impression of our casino to be poor. We have a good regular customer base however for this tournament we are expecting players from outside letterkenny, and donegal for that matter. Impossible to tell how many runners there will be as it is our first, however i would predict 30-40 runners easily enough, but the potential is there to hit 70-80 as aolt of people seem to now have the 29th of December 200 FO in there festive plans!!

apologies for my tone, im more of a morning person! yeah i hope this is a success its great to see the facility being run in the area one much needed. i would expect with a decent open ended structure (i.e. like it is now but mayeb going to 40 mins nearer the end to maek it more playable) it should surely be a success. keep up the good work.

That is a good idea about the changing to 40 mins towards the end. There will obviously be a set structure in place however as the game progresses this may be changed to ensure it doesnt become a crapshoot! We have the facilities and have nowhere to be the next morning!!! :D

Yeah or even 40 min blinds would add a lot to the structure, its starting early enough, and if there were lots of runners you could have them back the next day, noone tends to mind when they are guarantees money. but at least your taking the suggestions on board. ill call in soon enough.

This will be our first event of this type, hence why we currently have no ego about the best way to run it in this paticular neck of the woods to this crowd. So all suggestions are being taken on board. If anything is suggested that we like we will take it on board e.g. using paragraphs!! :) any queries ring us after 9pm on 074 9128707

the tournaments in Dublin have bene going on for so long that there is so much experience as to what blind levels/stacks offer the best value, There could be no doubt 10,000 stacks and blinds of 30-45 mins would leave plenty of play. on another note, have you got a list of rules with regards to speech play, when your hand is dead i.e. when the first card is dealt or when it comes around to you etc. that would be helpful to read as i and im sure others wouldnt be familiar with your house rules.
