I decided to chance my arm and try pick up a Wii even though I hadn't pre-booked.... SUCCESS!I picked it up from Game on Dawson St at around 12.10. I'd been queuing since 8pm and was #10 in line. (#1 was there since 9.30 AM!). By the time of the launch there was well over 100 people with only 30 or so non pre-booked consoles going so there was a good bit of disappointment. :(

Game gave everyone pizza around 11 (they had over 20 boxes of 12' Cheese:D ) and started letting people in 10 at a time around 11.50. The bundles aren't too bad and there was no pressure to buy one, though most people seemed to be going for the 4 game bundle.

I got Zelda and Wii Play + the Wii itself for 384.97 which wasn't too shabby I thought. Game also handed out goodie bags with Wii hats, Wii torch-pens, Wii notepads and Wii mousepads.

I'm gonna look sh*t hot in college tomorrow....

Anyway, I'll post up opinions on the actual workings of the precious thing later... I'd do it now but I need to double check how unbelievably fun it is...

I was the guy who shouted "neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerds!" out of the window of the bus on Dawson street, btw.

As I was on on my way to the Wii launch on Henry Street ;)

Roll on 8 so I can pick up the same bundle myself!!!

Along with either a classic controller or a 2nd nunchuck, and a Wii points card.

(Then drop heavy hints for Rayman and Red Steel for Christmas/My birthday! ;))

Well, I was on my way out the door at 12.15 with 100+ people still waiting so I wouldn't be 100% but I'd say so. Most people were getting Zelda or Red Steel.

When I left Dawson St (and I was one of the last) they had loads of the Wii Play/Wii Remote packs left. But unfortunately they were all out of the Nun-chucks. (you get a nun-chuck free with the console, but you don't get one with the second controller in the Wii Play pack)

I was debating getting either a classic controller or a extra nunchuck with my Wii at 8, think I'll go for the nunchuck now. Can always use my GCN controller to play virtual console games.

    Ha ha... very nice.

Should've shouted out something like "Zelda dies!!"

    Edit: die.

He said the right thing because a hundred laughing/raging people is better than some laughing while the fanboys in the queue cry :D

Just beat you to it :D Got there around 7:05 and there were about 20 people in the store looking like big kids...me included! After much debating, I bought Zelda, Wii play, Wii points and the Wii itself. The nunchuck was being sold at 27.99  Surely it's cheaper elsewhere?

So myself and my gf were jumping around playing wii sports at 7:20. Tennis is great fun but doesn't seem to play as I had anticipated (for some reason, I thought you could put top spin on the ball etc). Baseball is better than expected, boxing is great fun, bowling is ok, and golf shows the potential a TW game could have on the system.

So tomorrow is Zelda day :D

How much are the games and controller?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,881 ✭✭✭Kurtosis

Nunchuk is selling at €21.99 in Gamestop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 660 ✭✭✭anthonymcg

Gamestop Henry Street had no Wii Play or controllers on their own. Said there was none in the country and they're expecting them on Wednesday. Not impressed.

If Game had 30 units available with no preorder needed then does that mean they have satisfied all their preorders?

What happens with the second shipment. Are they even getting a second shipment? Are there more people out there waiting to get a preorder filled in game?

I'm so confused and desperate :(

I started Queuing at 6:50pm last night, impulsively too, I had no plans to queue when I first arrived, but I don't regret it all. I had a great evening, played some multi-player Mario Kart DS, met some truly charming and friendly people and the time flew without even noticing.
When I got into the shop at 11:55 or so (though they couldn't make any sales until midnight) I asked one of the staff members how many non-pre-order systems they had in stock, the guy told me around 70! They must've had hundreds of Wii's in stock if you consider all the pre-orders they had too!

BTW; That guy in front, he had been there since 5:55am and hadn't eaten or drank anything in three days.

Yea, was told the same in Smyths. They had nunchucks but no Wiimotes. Don't know what you're going to do with a nunchuck on it's own, but there you go.

I think GAME on Henry Street actually had some Wiimotes (spotted a few behind the counter) but I couldn't afford to wait in line all over again, had to get to work :(

I got Zelda, Wii Play, 2,000 Wii Points card (comes in a white DVD case), and a Nunchuck.

Tried out Sports Play and Zelda now, and downloaded and tried Donkey Kong Country on VC, played it with my GC controller, and was loving it! :D

My cousin picked up Wii Play for me in GAME, Blanch at lunch. I bought the extra nunchuck just in case of shortages. Can never be too careful. :)

Does Wii Play come with the Wii? I remember reading if it does or not and cant remember what it said lol Just wondering why people wanted to know where to get Wii Play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

Wii-Sports comes with the machine, not Wii Play.

Wii Play probably isn't that great a game but it comes with a free Wiimote, hence the demand.

Wii Play can be bought in GAME on Henry Street... probably none left now as you can't get it anywhere else.

Hey, the light in my pen doesn't seem to be working, how do you turn it on?

Sorry, I know this seems like a small and petty thing to all you folks who haven't been able to get a Wii yet.

arrived at game in limerick at 8am and it was deserted
i was the only person in the shop (besides the people behind the counter)
    kinda eerie :D
so walked in handed my receipt and asked if there was any zelda left and they said there was a few left
thought about getting wii play but then decided not too
and now after many hours of zelda and wii sports i am very pleased
    but fishing is hard...

Well I got home from a recording session at just after 1am yesterday morning but I still woke up at 7:30am before my alarm. I got over to Smyths (Airside) just after 8am and picked up the console, Zelda and a Wii points card. I was informed that they had no spare controllers but they did have nunchuks. Got back to my house and immediately started setting up the system. I rang my GF (who works in town) and she said she would go into Game on Henry street and see if they had Wii Play. She managed to get me a copy and I went back over to Smyths and got a nunchuk (the manager was quite certain that there were no spare controllers or copies of Wii play in the county and they were all stuck in Germany. He wasn't impressed when I informed him that Game still had copies of Wii play!). I went straight into town and picked up Wii Play from the GF and then spent the next 13-14 hours (which I enjoyed thouroughly) playing Wii Sports/Play with some friends/family who have all gone home/to bed now. Now I get to settle down with Zelda: TP for an hour or two.

PS: I'm most impressed with the system and how fluidly it works; it really is fantastic:)

I was number 35 in line on thursday night - that was a hella cold three hours, but between the pizza, some mariokart (which I was leading until someones wii ran out of power methinks) and the nagin of southern comfort that my flatmate brought along for me, I managed to stay standing for 3 hours :P

    great fun :D

Collected some fellow boards members and went into town very early to Smyths - we were first in line and had a few DS games of Mario Kart and Starfox - it was a great atmosphere and everyone was in a great mood. Had a Wii launch party in my place last night with five other friends and people left amazed and wanting one!(...and very hungover! )

Had to race down to Game on Henry street for Wii play but that was the only panic.

Every one of my fears have been laid to rest and I'm now a very happy camper!
