Melbourne Airport Question

I'm flying to Perth on the 22nd Dec, and have a stop over in Melbourne for about 7hrs :(
This is becuse of the flight cuts Quantas has done from NZ. My original flight has a much shorter stop over.

If my arrival is on time I will have about 6hrs to spare before i need to be heading for my boarding gate.

What is Melbourne airport like? Would I be able to pass my time there? If not, is the city nearby and would be it easy to grab a taxi/bus and head in for a few hours to see the sights?

Airport is about 30 - 40 mins away and you want get any change out of 50 with a taxi! bus is about 17 each way p/p but honestly i dont think it'd be worth your time heading into the city

Dont really think Melbounre has any stand out sight that you could rush to see (like the opera house or crap) its just a really cool city that you need to spend time in to enjoy

Its a fairly big airport so there's plenty of shops/pubs/resturants! Your just gona have to grin and bare it im afriad! :o

Have you considered doing an overnighter in melbourne. 6 hours is a long time to add onto an already long journey.

I flew to Oz via athens one year and te stop over was 8 hours. unbearable. so on the way back i did the overnight stay. much better option. you get to see a city youve never seen and you are fresh the next day.

If I can survive 33hrs of travelling to get from my house to Sydney back in March. Then I last 12-14hrs to get to Perth.

I'm sure I can find the airport bar to have a pint or two while I read my book.

I think if I ever pick up a bible it would burn in my hands

Is there a TV lounge area in the airport? There was a couple in Singapore airport, kinda hope there might be one :D

a little hope can go a long way

6 hours is loads of time to get into the city.
Shuttle buses leave from outside the airport into the heart of the city every 15min.
and there's loads you can see in a few hours there.

Thats my opinion on it 2!

Plus you wont notice 6 hrs going between getting off the plane and sorting out your connection flight check in and crap then

15 min waiting for bus - 30mins into town,30min back probaly have to wait for a bus in the city centre as well

Then u have to be back in the airport an hour before your flight (and you want to leave a few mins here and there just to be safe)

you'd probaly have time for a quick tram ride (not being a kill joy here)
