Stupid answer, but go ASAP. There won't be many first-come-first-served units available and there are a lot of people with the same idea as you.

get there as early as you can, THey may not even have consoles for non preorders. There is supposedly a huge shortage in europe

I just read that apparently norway is only getting 1000 consoles and that spain is only getting 4000 units!!!

GAME on dawson street stop taking preorders ages ago because they couldn't guarantee me of a console (this was at the start of november).

No sorry, But Nrway has a population simular to ours €4.5 M And they only got 1000 units. :( so its not looking good for us. Not to mention the fact that we(Ireland ) Are traditionally not great at embrassing Nintendo consoles, so they may choose to allocate less to Ireland.

I toddled into Dawson street earlier. A few people queueing outside the door about 7pm. Guy at the front of it was juggling! Apparently he and some of the others had been there since 8.30 this morning I heard a staff member say. Also heard another one say to a customer that unless you were in the queue before 11.00pm tonight you can forget about getting your hands on a wii.

Of course the proof will be known tommorow but thats what I heard. Lots of wii games going up on shelves. I quite like the look of rampage which is a game I have a lot of fondness for. Not as many copies of Zelda around than I thought there would be.

Man all these threads are freakin me out!!! I have the Wii and zelda prebooked in Dawson St. and was told it was ok come in tomorrow and get it. but the mood of these threads is that your screwed if u dont go to the launch tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,523 ✭✭✭machalla

Oops sorry didn't mean to imply that anyone who pre-ordered wouldn't get it. The person who was asking the staff member was like me another one who believed there would be plenty of wiis around :(

I took a friends(former after this!) advice there would be loads of them..

    Ah well.

Was in town tonight and passed Dawson street at 12:10am, there was an ungodly amount of people queued up.

Cool, its actually great to hear of such a huge anticipation for a Nintendo machine, a sign of things to come I hope! At least the weather calmed down a bit for them too! :)

Lined up outside for 4 hours and got a Wii (and lots of other stuff).

Must have been about 300 people there, line went half way down Dawson St.

Good atmosphere there despite the weather, people playing Mario Cart on DS, chatting etc.

People organised there own numbering system to try and stop queue jumpers (write number on hand).

Half hour before opening, all the Game staff came out and gave us Pizza :)

Just wanted to say thanks to all the people there and for the hard work of the Game staff.

Ditto - got there at ten, was forty second in the line. I've never done the launch thing before (and hadn't preordered like the goon I am) and I thought it was a blast. To everyone who made the effort to keep queue skipping to a minimum I'd just like to say you folks were awesome.
I managed to snag a Wii, extra remote and nunchuck and a stack of games. I'm like a kid today.

Figure I heard for Wiis in Ireland was 1500

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 230 ✭✭dclifford

I had 49 on my hand. I got worried when I heard they only had 50 non-preorder. Got there about 10:15. They guy behind the counter reckons I got about the 40th Non-preorder.
I'm in work and its at home unopened.

I still have a very faint number 6 written on my hand.
Wow, impressed the numbering system we had organised in the front went back as far as 49, I thought it would have stopped at 15 or 20!

It went as far as 52. The kid that had 51 nearly cried when he had the news that there was only 50 non-preorder.
But it was all good when he handed over his parents money at the counter and then even gave the 1 cent change back to his dad.

That is great, I was hoping that most people who lined up would get one. It looks like that people who arrived up to at least 11 got one, which is fair enough.

Did everyone get one, or were some people left disapointed?

The thing was despite you being number 83, a number of people in the queue a head of you were actually pre-orders, so you really didn't get the 83rd pre-order machine, more likely 50 something.

I'm glad that there wasn't much messing in the queue and that it was orderly, it says a lot about the people there. I've lined up outside Aldi in the past for 3 hours to buy a new PC only for a riot to start when the doors opened and people actually geeting injured as they ran across the store, not nice.

I saw someone say that there were 7 non-pre-order wii's in Game this morning so.. I'd say anyone who turned up last night left happy.
    Nice work Game!
Still can't believe the number system went back and worked that well.
    Nice work Guys!

Got my Wii there last night. I was 33 but later, a friend in Game told us it wasn't official. Kinda made us sad =( There were loads of people skipping the queue though.

Also I know 51. I don't think his dad was there so it's probably the wrong guy.

33? hrmmm i was probally talking to you so :)

Ah its good they'd enough for everyone, most people towards the end of the queue all had pre-orders from what i heard, I hadda pick up zelda for one of em to make sure he got it..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭portach king

Nope the number was not at all official. That was just something the crowd organised, and worked quite well near the front of the queue anyway (people making sure that number ahead of them got into the store first etc)

In fairness I don't think there really was much skipping, at least not before the doors opened. It might have looked like it as some people arrived later to give moral support and pickup people who were waiting after they got it and a few people went up front to play Mario Kart DS with others or look in the window, but all went back to their spot later. A few people went up and down the line a few times to make sure there was no skipping. I think on the whole it was pretty static, fair and good natured.

It was weird, when the pizza came out there was nearly a riot to get at the pizza, which had me a little worried as to what would happen when the doors opened. But in the end, people were very quiet and orderly when the doors opened.

I was in Game, Dawson St. yesterday looking for Wii Play at around 09:40.
While in there I saw about 6 people just walk in, ask for a Wii and get a slip guaranteeing them one. In fact I saw the last one go. I was amazed at how many consoles Game must have had.

However, I thought the not selling games or accesories to anyone without a pre-order until Monday was a bit crap.
